I am on a mission to always strive for a better way to counsel middle-aged women who are considering or are now serving as their parents' primary caregiver/carer—a role-reversal few are prepared for especially if there is a history of unreported sibling physical and sexual abuse. My lived experience as a primary and long-distance carer coupled with over 20 years of counseling experience provide the foundational knowledge, clinical experience, and compassion necessary to validate and empower women serving as caregivers for aging parents—often without the support needed to maintain their own mental health wellness.

Danielle Maronick LW00009607 I have always had an interest in how the brain works and how we think about things that affect our outcomes. I am a believer that changing our self-messaging can impact our lives. This process is done through an exploration of the past, present, and future. I approach my practice as a journey in which we look at past relationships, and present relationships, and hope for future relationships. I find how others have spoken to us and how we speak to our ourselves have powerful impacts on our lives, goals, and relationships.

I have a passion for helping women and coming alongside them as they navigate the road to a more balanced and healthy life.
I ask that all my clients come to therapy as authentic themselves as possible, and I will do the same. I am a fatally flawed human who continues to work on my own stuff, while providing the place and space for you to grow. I encourage you to show up for yourself and as yourself. Nothing is off limits or too much to talk about! You are accepted here. I enjoy working with adult women and those in helping professions (educators, nurses, etc.) working through depression, anxiety, navigating adulthood, illness/cancer, relationship issues, adjustment stress and balancing roles. I believe therapy should be helpful and enjoyable.

Life is tough. Many aspects of a person’s life can contribute to feelings of loneliness, an ongoing sense of being on edge, a lack of motivation, and extreme overwhelm. This can impact us in countless ways including a lack of boundaries, relationship challenges, day-to-day life, and a general feeling of instability in our lives. Trauma, anxiety, and depression can make it hard just to get through the day. People seek therapy for a variety of struggles. Whatever your reason is, we will work together on your destination toward self-awareness, healing, and personal growth. You do not need to go through this journey alone.

You’ve got a ring on your finger and a date on your calendar, but you’re quickly realizing that wedding planning isn’t as blissful as you hoped. You’re overwhelmed, irritable, anxious, and exhausted. From decision fatigue to spotlight fright; family drama to bad bridesmaids; difficult vendors to tight budgets, and of course unpacking and letting go of the emotional baggage that you don’t want to carry into your marriage… engagement and wedding planning is an emotional maze. The truth is most brides feel tired, stressed, and often times isolated. Left untreated these feelings can develop into true anxiety, depression, and burnout.

Imagine a life filled with hope, where you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Imagine not feeling alone and scared but rather supported and encouraged. A life with less sadness and anxiety, where you feel confident in your ability to set and reach your goals. A life where your past does not hold you back from following your dreams. Having healthy relationships and knowing how to trust and communicate. A life free of guilt and shame, regret or fear. Being able to work through grief and loss and come out on the other side, even when it feels impossible. To live in the present and be your authentic self.

Healing is possible. There have been times in my own life when it felt impossible to experience the life I was meant to live, the joy we are meant to experience, spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical health. If you are there right now, or you feel like you are chained to your past and patterns that keep you from moving forward into hope, peace, and joy, you can overcome. I would love to partner with you on your journey forward.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
