I have been in the mental health field since 2014 and have worked with various ages and demographics. With a background that includes being a military child, collegiate athlete, and now a parent myself, I have found that I enjoy working with people who are finding themselves in a time of change. At this time, I am seeing clients 14 and older who need extra support in finding coping skills, navigating symptoms of depression or anxiety, communication skills, relationship challenges, and boundary work among other goals. At this time, I will also be taking a break from couples therapy and will update once accepting new clients.

I like people and enjoy getting to know and understand them. There are many ways we can get stuck or get weighed down in life issues. It is exciting for me to assist others in finding ways to get on with living. I believe this occurs when a client feels comfortable in the relationship with their therapist. As a therapist, my first task is to provide a safe environment for a person to experience themselves in new ways.

Have major parts of you been overshadowed by the stress of just trying to survive and get by? Have the expectations and demands from others to be a certain way left no room for self-discovery, acceptance and expansion? Painful past experiences, childhood trauma, and oppressive environments have taught many of us to silence our needs, prioritize others, not trust ourselves, and bury our true feelings. You are on the path to the next phase in your journey, and you don't have to navigate it alone. I know that even in light of the inner drive to reclaim authenticity, experiences from our past can linger and get in the way.

Seeking help from others can be very challenging, and in my experience, it is those that seek help that express the utmost courage. As a therapist, most of my experience has been centered around helping children and their families, many of whom have viewed therapy as a last resort. As a therapist, my mission is to help my clients heal and recover from things like depression, anxiety, or trauma in a way that is central to who they are. I utilize both art and play therapy to help understand my clients in expressive ways. I also utilize psychodynamic therapy to gain a bigger perspective of my clients’ past, present and futures.

We'll talk about your visible, tangible life, but also about things like feelings, beliefs, patterns, dreams, imagination, art, relationships, wounds, and the ways your unconscious bubbles up into things that trouble you -- or things that amaze you.
All of us, including you, were born with a core self that’s vibrant, inviolable, and indomitable. It’s still there inside, waiting patiently for each of us to work through the layers of difficulties, frustrations, and self-doubt that have accumulated over the years. When we do that difficult work, we’re able to live more from the core self and less from the wounded layer that so many of us have adopted out of painful necessity. In therapy we'll clarify confusions, heal the hurt places, and connect with your core self so you can live with more ease, truth, and self-love.

Are you experiencing stress, anxiety or depression as the result of a major life change? Life changes can be exciting: new job, recent marriage, birth of a child. Life changes can also be terrifying: loss of job, divorce, death of a loved one. You may initiate some life changes: planned retirement, move to another city or another country. Other life changes seem to force themselves upon you: a toxic relationship with a loved one that is no longer acceptable, unexpected injury, loved one that has betrayed your trust.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.
Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.
How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.
What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
