Since 2018 I have had the privilege of collaborating with clients as they heal from mental and emotional pain. I have worked with both children and adults to navigate and conquer the challenges of anxiety, depression, and trauma.

I currently have in person and telehealth availability. I believe our lives are constructed within the many relationship connections we experience throughout the lifespan; and this is what fuels my passion to work with individuals, couples, and families at all ages and stages of life. I am newly licensed but life experienced. I have been married for over thirty years and have one adult daughter and two grandchildren. I was an officer in the US Merchant Marines until 1996, and I have owned and operated a Farmers Insurance and Financial Services Agency for the past twenty-six years. I have been involved in coaching male and female athletes of all ages in baseball, basketball, soccer, and fast pitch. My interest in becoming a therapist grew out of this sports and business background. Assisting others to identify their strengths and weakness, and to empower themselves, has evolved into my next career.

I have immediate openings. Working with parents of teens is my area of specialty. I also have a great deal of experience working effectively with parents with younger children. I am passionate about working with parents. I work from the premise that relationships are the most important thing we do and that all parents want to be the best they can be. Teenagers face big challenges and need their parens to understand and support them through this important, vulnerable time in a way that helps them learn and grow. They need the skills to think for themselves, make good choices, and act responsibility to be able to face their future.

I currently have openings for new clients! I am a longtime resident in Olympia, WA and I love the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. As a pastor who gets the unique joys and sorrows of being called into ministry, I have a particular interest in working with pastors. If you are not a pastor, please do not let this deter you from calling me. I enjoy working with teens, adults, and older adults on topics that cause a person to feel stuck. Whether it be relationships, burn out, grief, trauma, anxiety, or any other topic that is causing discouragement, I would be honored to meet with you.

Legionary Mental Health offers culturally competent counseling to active military, veterans, first responders and their spouses. We offer in person counseling in Tumwater, WA and telehealth throughout Washington state. We are in the Triwest and Tricare network and work with individuals that have an authorization for care. Training and wellness if offered to law enforcement agencies throughout western Washington. 10-15 minute phone consultations are required to ensure good fit for care.

My journey began in the military where I served as an active-duty officer, honing my leadership skills and learning the value of resilience. This experience has been instrumental in understanding the unique needs of military families, which I've addressed in professional conferences, highlighting virtual interventions for postpartum depression and anxiety among military spouses.

The relationships that we put so much work into with those that we love are often the same relationships that cause the most hurt. Feelings of disappointment, distress, hurt, anxiety, and depression are part of our life experience- but we don’t have to stay there. The choice is yours to make. I have learned through life experience that crisis events happen, problems arise, and change is really difficult, but it is so worth it!

I lean on a Developmental framework in nearly every area of your life: some areas are highly developed, others underdeveloped. I work with a traditional social work Strengths Based perspective, which means that I look for what you do well, and how you have successfully coped in the past. With a Cognitive Behavioral structure, we also look at which behaviors you might want to alter, as well as the thinking distortions that tend to be underneath our areas of dysfunction.

I am passionate about helping clients heal and transform through an eco-art therapeutic approach that combines art, nature and play. Working and playing in a natural setting, I offer a variety of mediums to encourage growth, both indoors and out. This allows an emergent and imaginative approach to therapy that adapts to fit the unique needs of each individual, couple, family and group. Moving from sand tray to clay, collage to art journaling, clients can walk outdoors on paths that meander past waterways and through old growth forests. With labyrinths, meditative walks and an enormous sound chamber, I offer many creative outlets.
