Navigating life can be tough sometimes, whether you're going through a big change or just feeling like it's time for something new, feeling safe and confident might feel out of reach right now. Adjusting to new roles—like becoming a parent, navigating a new career, exploring your gender identity, or dealing with culture shock—can be daunting and impostor syndrome can really make you question if you belong. I am dedicated to supporting my clients in a safe space as they explore the feelings that brought them to therapy.

Has becoming a parent been more challenging than you expected? Are you struggling to feel connected to your partner or to your baby? Are you feeling unsupported, exhausted, fearful, or sad when you thought you would be feeling elated? Are you questioning whether your experience is normal and wondering if things could be better? Now more than ever, moms and parents are feeling the pressure to be "perfect" without the support they really need to thrive. You can and should be doing more than just surviving parenthood.

Do you find yourself feeling stuck in the same cycles and patterns? Are you wishing for movement in your life but find yourself unable to let go of old stories, feelings, and thoughts? Maybe you are unsure of where to start but know that the way things are, is not how you want them to be. Often times our lives can become dictated by past wounds and, coping with the feelings that arise from these moments, can be difficult. Healing from the past and staying present in the now is possible, and you do not have to do it alone.

I believe that therapy is a way to gain a deeper understanding into the thoughts, feelings, and experiences behind the narratives that inform how we show up for ourselves and our relationships with others. Sometimes these narratives keep us stuck in patterns that no longer serve us and create distress in our lives, that’s where my job as your therapist begins.

The Magic in Hypnosis is not what the Hypnotist does; the Magic is YOU! The "True You" is right before your eyes...Waiting to Emerge! I can help you look inside and uproot some of what binds you. We all have a story, some is known but much is unknown. We live in very stressful times built on top of past and dumped into our future trip. Inspite of the spin around us; hope can be found!

As a grief therapist, I understand that working through grief may be the hardest and most courageous thing any of us can do. Too many people feel lost in their grief, unsure how to grieve, or unable to let the loss go. My goal is to help clients understand and work through the tasks of grief while honoring the memory of the ones they have lost. I also know that grief can show up in many different types of loss, and so am committed to helping people navigate complex feelings connected to the loss of relationships, loss of jobs, loss of identities, or loss of religion or spirituality as well.

I am a LICSW with a focus on psychotherapy with adults, children and families. I have been a practitioner for 48 years, in private practice for 12 1/2 years and had been a psychotherapist for 26 years in the Behavioral Health Department at Group Health. While there, in addition to a general caseload that included Medicare patients, I ran a Children's Therapy Group, served on a county-wide child abuse oversight committee, co-chaired an inter-disciplinary case consultation team, and managed an intern program.

Are you running on autopilot, feeling anxious, stressed, and over indulging? Are you reactive based on past traumatic experiences? Find more EASE through therapy based on neuroscience and mindfulness. Develop resilience by learning to briefly experience distress and then return to safety. Lessen anxiety by becoming aware of the trigger, behavior and result of your anxiety. Change a habit by learning short practices that you implement at home when you experience craving or overwhelming feelings.

Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, navigating major life changes, or just feeling lost? Are you struggling to figure out what to do after college, or reentering the workforce after a long absence? Together, my clients and I work to place their difficulties in cultural context, while still keeping in mind that we are powerful. Starting with the assumption that everyone is capable of functioning well, I work from an internal family systems, existential, and multicultural standpoint to support clients in developing a deep understanding of maladaptive patterns.

Hello and welcome! My name is Amber, and I work under the business name "Nurturing Hope Counseling". I chose this name for my business because that is what I hope we can build working together in the counseling relationship. Life is stressful and hard at times, if not all the time, so coming together to find ways to grow and strengthen our hope is something that I find key to reaching the goals we create together in counseling. Hope is that "light at the end of the tunnel" we strive for, but sometimes lose sight of in the muck of life. But, fortunately the light penetrates the dark, so together we can foster the flame of hope again.

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
