Some of those tools include learning about your primary and secondary personality type, understanding how your childhood helped develop these personality types, and exploring the subliminal messages that trauma or old wounds leave with us.
I have a Master's degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Marriage and Family Therapy, and have been in practice for over 25 years. I am a Washington State designated as a Child Mental Health Specialist and a Registered Circle of Security Parent Educator. Over my years in practice, I have worked with families, couples, adolescents, and individuals. The goal of therapy is to help you understand yourself and others within a relationship. My goal is to help you see your behavior patterns at a processing level, so you may disrupt these patterns for new, healthy behaviors. For example, ending chronic people-pleasing habits.

My work is grounded in Attachment Theory, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and somatic based approaches to trauma and PTSD.
As a therapist, I am committed to individual and collective healing, operating from the belief that people change in the presence of other people. This is what makes the therapeutic experience so transformative – the relational work of therapy provides a new context where, together with a safe other, you can seek to understand and unlearn old patterns that no longer serve you, while learning to navigate through your inner and outer world with more courage and comfort. I work to create shared experiences based in curiosity and safety, speaking to the parts of you and your story that may feel stuck or alone.

Therapy is a place where you can come as you are, process life's challenges, relationship struggles, seasons of doubt, feeling stuck or sad, anger, or maybe even ambivalence. In this space we can walk together through past trauma, areas of hurt or betrayal, and life transitions to pursue healing, restoration, and authenticity. Together we can notice attachment wounds and past events that may be continuing to shape your narrative and work toward interpersonal, inner growth and acceptance. Healing takes work and having support as you wade through those deep waters allows us to face fear and pain with bravery and create resilience.

My methods are influenced by attachment theory, trauma-informed care, and emotion-focused methods to assist in expanding capacity to become more present with self and others.
When you become aware of yourself feeling anxious, depressed, or alone - you may wonder to yourself, how can I change or is change even possible for me? I believe that change happens within the context of being in connection with others; a felt sense of safety being the key component to be your most authentic self. I see clients who are wanting to grow in curiosity of their story, expand their awareness of themselves in and out of relationships, explore learning how to sit with unprocessed emotions, and build skills to be present with self and others.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
