I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate (LMFTA). What this means for our sessions is that I will provide a professional guiding hand for your individual, relationship, or family therapy journey. Your voice is extremely important and a vital piece of my practicing philosophy is that this will be a safe space for said voice to be uplifted through our work. Some of the theories we might concentrate on together are solution focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and experiential therapy. I also provide an affirming environment for queer, gender inclusive, and multiculturally competent care.

I believe we all have the capacity to live fulfilling lives, but sometimes we become overwhelmed and don't know in which direction to move. I use a practical, solution focused approach to help you identify and achieve your goals.

I use CBT to help with unhelpful and unhealthy thinking styles, such as catastrophizing, or self-blame.
Are you experiencing anxiety? Have you or your child gone through a traumatic event or experienced a major loss? Are you having trouble maintaining a healthy relationship? Do you struggle from low self-esteem and/or low self-confidence? I practice client centered strengths based approaches that teach the client skills to successfully become their own therapist for the times they face barriers in their life.

These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Interviewing.
I believe that therapy can benefit all of us. It helps to reduce stress and can improve our overall quality of life. If you are experiencing difficulties with mood, anxiety, anger, trauma or grief, I may be able help. In my experience, the most important aspect of therapy is the building of rapport between you and your therapist. With this in mind, I focus first on listening, being curious and respecting the fact that the people who I work with are the experts on their own lives. With a foundation of understanding then in place, we can work on achieving your individual goals.

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior techniques to help my clients develop the coping skills, behavioral change, shift in perspectives.
My clients often struggle with anger, anxiety or stress and find themselves in these places because they lack the strategies and tools to either feel better or make the needed changes in their lives. I hope you give me the opportunity to work with you as I will help you identify the problems getting in the way of your success and be sure to explain the "why" behind the skills, strategies and tools that will help you on your way.

I use evidence based methods of therapy including Emotion Focused and Gottman Therapy for couples and Families, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for depression and anxiety and Discernment Counseling for navigating separation and divorce.
I believe that beginning therapy doesn't mean that something is wrong with you. It can be that safe hour you take to nourish yourself and find clarity. With this self-care it is possible to begin the changes that seemed overwhelming by yourself. Children and adolescents are often surprised to find therapy a fun hour where they enjoy new ways of telling their story and being heard. You don't have to go it alone. Together we can find healing.

I’m an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapist who utilizes Cognitive and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills with individuals and Emotion Focused Therapy with relational clients.
Hi! I’m Ashley Sears, a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern, at National University. I have a passion for supporting individuals with complex developmental trauma. Trauma can hold us hostage to our past and I hope to provide a pathway to freedom in healing. Additionally, I believe strongly in helping both intimate and family relationships as these connections are often an anchor in life. Relationships don’t come with an instruction manual and can easily get thrown into chaos due to everyday life events. Thankfully, seeking support is the first step towards a new beginning.
