I am currently enrolled in the IFS Level Two training and also draw from CBT, DBT and Somatic Therapy.
Everyone carries emotions, memories, and sensations from difficult experiences, and consequently there are parts of you (i.e. behaviors, thought patterns, etc) that work very hard to help keep you safe. I welcome every part of you. Together we will hold space for your pain without rushing to distract, avoid or escape from it and my goal is to help you access the active healing presence inside. Please know, I personally understand that being a person of color poses many challenges in this country and seeking help from clinicians who don't look like you or talk like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

Hi! My name is Veronica and go by my nickname, Moica. I have an eclectic solution-focused approach to my work with individuals. Utilizing a customized approach to support each client's unique challenges and barriers. Support my client to take the lead in their treatment and create an engaging dialogue and experience. Utilizing therapy as a safe place to vent, process and express yourself is a great use of your session; however, I also enjoy treating from a systemic approach. This allows me to create a clear road map for my clients on how they can reach some of their “Big Goals”, whether they are personal and or professional goals.

Life is challenging and even harder when we have large and small traumas that get in the way of our wellness and growth. I find it a great honor to help people overcome life's inevitable difficulties to improve their lives and strengthen their families. I teach skills and build upon strengths as clients reconnect with and live into their highest and best self. Spiritual growth and healing is a specialty of mine, and an optional part of therapy.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
