I am not your conventional psychotherapist. My journey into the world of mental health is uniquely shaped by my background as an outdoor journalist and lived experiences of grief, loss, tragedy, and trauma. Driven by a passion to bridge storytelling with holistic healing (I'm a certified psychedelic/ketamine-assisted therapist), I use my sincere interest in the human experience in the therapy setting to treat adults, couples, and families living with shame, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, addiction, and life transitions and questions. As the Sufi poet Rumi once wrote, “The cure for pain is in the pain.”

Do you find yourself struggling with past memories, fear about the future, difficulty regulating emotions, or feeling overall unsatisfied with your life? With a specialization in trauma I can help you navigate these challenges by identifying how your past continues to impact your present and how unhelpful patterns continue to prevent you from moving forward.
We all have moments in life where the weight of our struggles feels too much to handle. If you are reading this, you have likely felt the exhaustion and heartache life can bring. The good news is you don’t have to carry this weight on your own. I work to create a safe, non-judgmental, and compassionate environment where you can feel wholly accepted and cared for just as you are. Together, we will go on a journey of self-exploration where we identify and examine the hurts that have led you to where you are today. It is in this work together that true healing and peace can be found.

My approach is grounded in Attachment Theory, Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT), and somatic approaches to trauma and healing.
As a therapist, I am committed to the belief that people change in the presence of other people. This is what makes the therapeutic experience so transformative – the relational work of therapy provides a new context where you can make sense of & work to unlearn old patterns that no longer serve you, while learning to navigate your inner & outer world with more courage & ease. My approach is highly relational, viewing the need for connection to self, others & the world around us as foundational to human wellness. Together, we work to increase curiosity, vulnerability & emotional flexibility .

My 11 years of clinical practice has focused primarily on working with women who have suffered from trauma (often sexual), substance abuse, and disordered body image/eating disorders.
Counseling is a sacred experience in which a client and therapist venture into hidden pains, untold stories, and the dark parts of life's journey together. As a Christian, I believe that the healing process cannot happen apart from the Holy Spirit, the Great Counselor. But as a trained, Clinical Mental Health Counselor, I know that faith communities, Christian family members, and other close Christian relationships often fail to authentically meet us in the depths of our despair and sorrow. With me as your counselor, I hope you will find a spaciousness to be your full imperfect self without fear of judgement or shame.

Grounded in contemporary relational/interpersonal dynamic theories, I integrate existential, trauma/gender-focused, cognitive behavioral, + mind/body techniques into your therapy.
Currently accepting new clients. Trauma, attachment + identity impact people in different ways. Do you often feel detached or numb? Do you avoid thinking about the past or self-medicate? Are you concerned about your parenting? Do you often find yourself in difficult relationships? Are you concerned about your memory? Do you feel sad or anxious a lot? Are you "stuck" in the same pattern? Do you have trouble trusting people? Are you irritable most of the time? Do you feel like you don't know yourself or your purpose? Do you feel incomplete or want meaning in life? If you answered yes to any-I believe I could be a good fit for you.

I have experience and interest in helping individuals learn and identify strategies to manage and reduce phase of life problems, symptoms of depression, stress, anxiety, psychosis, trauma, obsessive-compulsive disorder, barriers which impact self-esteem, cycle of violence, as well as types of abuse and the long term impact of abuse.
November Openings. My name is Dr. Pauline Botchway, and I strongly believe that, as human beings, we have the ability to change and transform our lives through choice. Since no single theory can capture our experiences as human beings, I utilize an integrated approach that allows me to use some aspects of Gestalt, Existential, and Solution Focused, as well as high utilization of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR. In addition to my community mental health, I am including private practice in my work. My main goal as a clinician is to help and guide individuals to change their lives to improve everyday living.

If you have experienced childhood trauma or have PTSD, I will work with you to face the past and to reframe the beliefs that trauma causes.
Wherever you are in your life’s journey, I will meet you there and companion you as you move through the obstacles that have kept you from living fully. Life circumstances, trauma and sometimes simply trying to please others can influence how we live and the choices we make. We find that we are not living authentically. I believe that the goals in therapy are to return to our authentic selves and to make life choices that give us meaning, purpose and joy.
