I really do enjoy working with individuals and groups and seek to have an authentic and warm therapeutic relationship with my clients. Building trust is paramount to successful treatment and my approach is to start with a more open and conversational tone after assessment. The process will focus on feelings and creating a space to foster more sensitive conversations. My own life experiences have guided me to this ‘feeling work’. My life’s purpose is to use the gift for seeing the strengths in people to assist the client in finding their genuine self. Past clients have described me as “caring”, “empathic” and “helpful”.

Looking for a more active and experiential approach to therapy? Working with children, adolescents, adults and families I use horses as part of a treatment modality for issues such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, autism spectrum disorders, oppositional disorders, and adolescent issues. Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is highly active and quickly engages even clients who have become disillusioned with more traditional therapeutic approaches. Horses and activites are combined to help clients recognize their typical approach to problems, what may or may not be working, and how to move forward.

I'm currently providing therapy via Telehealth only, for individuals residing in either WA state or OH. When it comes to my approach, I believe in the therapeutic process and relationship, and find immense joy in offering a sense of belonging and hope to my clients. Life is hard, and sometimes the ways in which we cope with our suffering ends up causing us even more pain. I'm here to help you wade through all of that, understand yourself better, develop a sense of self-compassion, and gain a broader perspective. Each person has a unique and precious story and I consider it a gift to come alongside of you.

We all want to be seen and understood and at the same time are afraid of what we and others will find. We don't trust ourselves or our decisions. We suffer from anxiety, depression, traumas and a myriad of other relational issues. In counseling we learn to understand ourselves and others by telling our stories well. As a greek philosopher once said, "An unexamined life isn't worth living". When we learn to examine ourselves with curiosity, compassion, and truth our life becomes clear hopeful and fullfilling.

On the outside you appear to have a great life. Meanwhile, internally you feel empty, hopeless, on edge, excessive worrying, and an inability to create balance in all areas of your life. You’re probably exhausted from attempting to tackle these uncomfortable feelings day after day to no avail. It’s almost as if the harder you try to feel at peace or content with yourself you sink deeper into feeling you’re just not good enough or a failure. You’ve possibly wondered if there is something wrong with you.

Are you tired of people telling you how strong you are when really you are just so exhausted? Are you confused or frustrated by your reactions but no matter what you tell yourself, you can't seem to get your body to listen and cooperate? Or maybe your once-meaningful job feels more and more like an obligation and you are feeling increasingly indifferent towards others and/or just angry at the world? If you are multicultural, you may also feel invisible and feel even more isolated. You are not alone. Many people who have experienced trauma or whose work exposes them to trauma struggle with these challenges.

I am licensed in Washington State and I work with adult children, partners and siblings of individuals with Narcissistic and Borderline Personality Disorder traits. It can be difficult to find a therapist who truly understands the impact and wounds of being raised in a home or being in a relationship with someone who has narcissistic traits or borderline traits. My work includes creating a healthy psychological separation, changing the negative internal messages, learning how to respond to others, creating healthy boundaries, stopping the legacy of distorted love and becoming your true and authentic self.

Welcome! We can all use a little bit of help sometimes. Having the courage to recognize that, and take action, says a lot about you and what you want to see in your future. Do you find it difficult to regulate your emotions, and see that this difficulty interferes in your relationships, work, school or other aspects of your life? Do you recognize thought patterns that repeat on loop and keep you stuck? Are there past events or present circumstances that you need help processing? Perhaps I can help. Therapy is a journey toward healing, acceptance and self-discovery. I would love to partner with you on your very personal journey.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
