We are accepting new clients. Hi, I'm Kirsten and I have experience with adults and teens impacted by depression and anxiety. I provide support for folks experiencing challenges such as self esteem, identity issues, career challenges, and relationship difficulties. My approach includes strength based, attachment based, and family systems work, as these interventions validate existing strengths while unlearning thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve us. I utilize interventions such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, compassion focused therapy, among others.

My clients are people that struggle with unresolved trauma, family conflict, or relationship issues, particularly within a multicultural or immigrant context. They may be experiencing anxiety, depression, or difficulty managing multiple roles (e.g., as a parent or caregiver). They are dealing with unresolved trauma from their past, which could stem from childhood, family dynamics, or past relationships. They face family conflict, possibly related to generational or cultural differences, where expectations and values clash with their own and struggle with relationship issues, such as difficulties with intimacy and communication.

Coming from the emergency medical field, I’ve seen firsthand how the mind, body, and soul are connected. We are all intersectional beings that encompass a vast amount of love and kindness, to give to ourselves and share with others.

Therapies that focus on brain change, heal symptoms more rapidly and get to the deepest part of the issue. I work from a positive perspective that is both challenging and supportive simultaneously. Some people come to me to grow in areas of peak performance and others come to break free from the gridlock they experience in their significant relationships. Many people are stuck in a depressive or anxious cycle that doesn't allow them to be authentic in how they engage the world. I have been a therapist for over 20 years and I love it.

I am a proponent of holistic healing - treating the whole person (mind, body, spirit). I enjoy employing creative mediums in the therapeutic process to include symbolic (Jungian), artistic, musical and written expression. There are many constructive ways to channel life's challenges, stressors and traumas. It is imperative to find meaningful, healthy ways to cope. My clinical background is diverse and has included work with teens and adults in the area of trauma and addiction. Additionally, I have many years of experience working with individuals and families contending with various physical and/or developmental disabilities.

A wise mentor once explained to me that emotions were (E)nergy in (Motion). And that was all the aha I needed to start developing a therapeutic practice focused on the movement of stuck trauma, unhelpful thoughts and poor relationships through the brain and body to develop healing or what Dr. Bruce Perry calls rhythm. One approach to developing rhythm is EMDR. It is an approach that moves us through stuck trauma as quickly as possible. EMDR creates rhythm by building confidence, clarity, self-compassion, and healthy connection with the self and others.

I have a strong dedication to working with children and teens, as my biggest passion is advocating for others. I have extensive experience in family law courts, serving roles such as a reunification therapist, Casa, guardian ad litem, and expert witness. I am commitment to being "a voice for the most vulnerable" and experience with handling cases involving life adjustments, depression, anxiety, sensory processing disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, and high-conflict custody cases. My intense professional involvement with vulnerable populations is particularly geared towards children in legal and therapeutic contexts.

Life is unpredictable and can often leave us in a place of vulnerability. Life can get busy changes occur, and our relationships can be affected. Often times we just need someone to talk with for a different perspective or a different way of approaching a life challenge. Often times we just may be unable to articulate what we need as we navigate our feelings and what we want for our own personal goals and outcomes. When we push our needs aside they can resurface in ways that become unmanageable, making it hard to connect with others.

I offer a warm, validating and authentic space in which you can explore, deeply examine, and accept who you are as well as seek to change alongside someone who genuinely cares. You may experience the occasional gentle challenge, but diverse perspectives and social justice are valued here; your worldview will be treated as valid. You are the expert on you, so my priority is facilitating your search for your own answers over presenting mine. I point out beliefs, connections and patterns without presenting my interpretation as the best or only one. Strategies and conclusions you buy into are the most likely to have a lasting impact.

Maybe you're looking for help reconnecting with your partner, or perhaps you're experiencing pain during sex. You can trust that you will be met with compassion, patience and respect as you explore and grow in your relationships.

On the surface, you seem to have it all (or mostly) together, but underneath there’s more to the story and it’s hard to describe in words sometimes. You feel alone. You feel like something’s wrong with you. You don’t feel like you really know yourself. You may also find yourself feeling anxious, disconnected from others and yourself, exhausted, becoming angry or overwhelmed easily, on alert or on edge, and/or struggling in relationships.
