I have specific experience and training in addressing anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, sexual abuse, grief and loss, parenting challenges/transition to becoming a parent, perinatal mental health, ADHD and individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.
In our fast paced culture that emphasizes productivity over presence, it can be easy to feel isolated and disconnected. When we experience major transitions in life, encounter loss and grief, experience trauma, enter periods of questioning or struggle with addiction or mental health challenges we can find ourselves feeling untethered and lost. As a counselor, I provide a safe, accepting, respectful and supportive space for individuals and couples to recover a sense of deep connection in their lives. I utilize person-centered approaches that support healthy attachment and attunement.

Some of my specialties include: trauma, sexual abuse/ assault, pre-natal/post-partum issues, anxiety, depression, domestic violence, self-esteem, spirituality and parenting.
Finding a "good fit" is essential when looking for a therapist. You should feel safe to be your authentic self without feeling judgment. I believe the client/therapist relationship is primary for healing and effective work. Within that relationship, I consider you the expert on your own life. While thoughtfully listening, I will also offer insights, invitations to try something new, and help you in building new skills and finding solutions. People tend to find me warm, accepting, and engaging.

My research focused primarily on trauma, PTSD, marginalized identities, and sexual assault.
I specialize in working with people who are in intense emotional distress, including people who feel like their lives are almost unlivable. Many of my clients are navigating the worst moments of their lives or challenges that feel impossible. I help my clients find ways through to the other side. I often work with clients experiencing anxiety, uncontrollable anger, OCD, PTSD, chronic pain, health issues, personality disorders, self-harm, or suicidality. I also have expertise in LGBTQIA+ issues and religious trauma and deconstruction. I am skilled with men's issues, including men who may not view themselves as “therapy” people.

There are two types of trauma I can help with, single event such as an accident or assault, and attachment/preverbal trauma that can cause complex symptoms.
Painful emotions and thoughts, and sometimes physical pain, are symptoms of events that have happened in your life. With a fresh, body based approach to therapy, we will work as a team to help your body and mind know that these experiences are over. I have been practicing Lifespan Integration trauma clearing for 14 years and am confident that I can help anyone ready to do the work move forward. I would also like you to know, whether we work together or not, that old methods of talk therapy can be retraumatizing, so please don't persist in a healing method that continues to make you feel bad.

Areas of expertise are complex trauma, childhood sexual abuse, and sexual assault.
Struggles lead to new growth. I welcome you to my private practice where I provide women with wise, kind, non judgmental counsel. Although life may fall apart, our identity may seem lost, or we spiral into self hatred because of things we are afraid to talk about, this is an opportunity for healing and evolution. Liberate yourself and discover self love, purpose, strength and wholeness here. I invite you to bring your feelings of guilt, shame, fear and self loathing and know that it is safe. I approach the messiness of being human with non judgement, authenticity, and sometimes a good dose of humor as needed.

Michael has unique experience working with clients on a variety of difficult issues: sexual abuse, traumatic experiences, and complex family dynamics.
With over seventeen years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, Michael has successfully helped many clients with complex issues that negatively impact their lives and their families in significant ways. He believes in treating clients holistically (mind, body, and spirit) and that the work clients do outside of therapy is as important as the work they do in session. The priorities are helping clients develop skills and providing resources that will support them to make lasting change.

Whether you desire to engage childhood sexual abuse, relationship issues or traumatic brain injury, it'd be an honor to journey with you.
I invite you to a better second half of your life than the first half was. My specialties? Healing childhood abuse, couples, & brain injury. So often we settle for less—I invite you to a life full of more. Our lives are stories that intersect with those around us. Who we are, our relationship patterns, careers, & how we navigate life's events are rooted in our formational experiences. In a kind and conversational style, I invite you to step into the earth of those places. By walking barefoot through the dirt of your deepest heartache and how you were (and are) shaped by it, you will find that you return to your truest self.

Welcome to Hawthorn Trail Therapy; I'm so glad you're here. Human-ing is hard. As relational beings our hearts are broken by grief, loss, and harm, and we can become disconnected from ourselves, others, and the world. The hawthorn tree symbolizes courage and resilience, and is known for healing of the heart. It takes courage to seek therapy; it is a step on the path of compassionate awareness toward healing and home. For me, this path is one of developing safety and flexibility in the nervous system, moving out of bracing or collapse toward openness and connection, finding new ways of being that lead to freedom and flourishing.
