My approach is deeply relational, psychodynamic, psychoanalytic, based in attachment and family systems theory, Somatic Experiencing, and Energy Fluency therapy.
Seeking therapy can be a daunting process, while also being one step toward greater wholeness/healing. Relationship is where we are both wounded and healed. I work with individuals seeking relief from distressing symptoms such as; demanding too much of yourself, finding it hard to trust self, trust your own experience, self-soothing through addictive behaviors, pleasing others at your own expense, anxiety, depression, CPTSD. Our patterns of relating develop early within our first attachments, so our journey might include visiting some of those relationships to wonder how they impact you in the here and now.

I cultivate a space for emotional pain to breathe and speak, offering a specialized form of attention and care which is grounded in the psychoanalytic tradition of Object-Relations.
Pain is the best teacher, but often it can be difficult to understand what emotional pain is trying to speak. It may be trying to get your attention through an unwanted behavior, an unbearable feeling, or an unbreakable thought pattern. It may show itself in repeated relational dysfunction, addiction, or disturbances in mood or sleep. I find I work well with people who are exhausted from trying to manage or control emotional pain, and are ready to face it holistically and head-on. I also help people suffering from complicated and acute psychological problems which have not responded well to other therapy treatments.

My practice is grounded in contemporary psychoanalytic theory and humanist philosophy.
My healing begins from a place of connection and an appreciation of your potential and the power we have to impact each other. I will support you in your search for greater meaning, emotional awareness and empowerment in a world that can be overwhelming and isolating. We will begin a thoughtful exploration of how your past experiences and relationships impact you presently. Together we can uncover and co-create new meanings out of your experiences, and these new understandings can give you the power to relate differently to yourself and others.

In my practice I blend an Existential, Psychoanalytic, and Humanistic perspective, adjusting my style to your needs.
You’ve always had a sense that something crucial is missing, like a song stuck on a note that never resolves. Sometimes you feel disconnected from your authentic self, unable to put words to feelings, lost in a fog of uncertainty. At other times it feels like you’re too much for others and don’t know how to let it out without feeling like a burden. This existential dread has been a constant companion, but you’re sure there’s more to life and that some piece of the puzzle is missing. You long to remove this familiar barrier from impacting your ability to relax, to focus, to show up more as yourself in relationships.

I offer psychoanalysis/ psychoanalytic therapy for overcoming anxiety, depression and emotional difficulties at all phases of life. For many, a starting place in therapy may be describing concrete symptoms of pain and illness in your body, and/or life stressors such as finances, relationships, responsibilities, social/political stress, disease/chronic conditions. These topical, real-world struggles are important entry points to your emotional world and your inner life.

My psychoanalytic journey includes a master's in social work from Columbia University, training at the Seattle Psychoanalytic Society and Institute, and adult certification from APsaA.
Together, we will manage feelings stirred up by isolation, loneliness, anger, self-criticism, and low self-esteem. I use my expertise to teach you to handle anxiety, anger, and depression. Clients often rediscover childhood creativity and make quick progress. Why pay high psychiatrist fees when you can see a certified psychoanalyst for less and achieve better results?

I practice psychodynamic mind-body psychotherapy, incorporating Relational Psychoanalytic, Experiential Dynamic, Existential-Phenomenlogical, and Buddhist perspectives.
Welcome. Are you looking for more joy and better relationships? My training has taught me to help people examine and describe the life they have, identifying areas in which they are "stuck," and reconnect to the life-goals that motivated them. Sometimes this stuckness has to do with certain feelings, sometimes it is about past traumas, often it shows up as repeating patterns in significant relationships, and sometimes it manifests as a malaise in which a direction in life seems impossible to find.

In addition, psychoanalysis and psychoanalytic therapy allow you the time to address those existential questions and enigmas that are part of living a meaningful life.
Perhaps you are here searching with the hope to find some relief for your suffering or solutions to your problems. Our work together would focus on your specific dilemmas and struggles as well as your singular values and strengths. The strategies and coping patterns that people use in relationships and life endeavors are generally outside of conscious awareness, and at times, these strategies are no longer effective. This is because they are based on unexamined assumptions about ourselves and others that have become outmoded - perhaps because we have changed or our circumstances have changed - but often both.

Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy is a collaborative process and a unique form of conversation. In this treatment modality we recognize the centrality of relationships in our development and explore constitutive effects that significant relationships and significant events have on our mind; how they guide our wishes, fears and conflicts. Human self-awareness is always limited, and our behaviors, choices, interests, and conscious beliefs are influenced by internal and external forces that we may not be fully aware of. Psychotherapeutic experience provides the opportunity to shape a new experience of being through deeper self-understanding

My training is based on relational psychotherapy and informed by a psychoanalytic perspective.
I am licensed in both Washington and Arizona and work primarily with adults and couples in a relational psychotherapy. I follow a psychodynamic modality that explores the patterns of relationships in your life and the root issues behind your symptoms. When providing couples therapy I view the "couple as the client" in order to focus on the relationship itself. NOTE: I do not bill insurance for couples therapy. When contacting me for individual therapy please list your insurance carrier in your consultation request.

My work draws from psychoanalytic, cognitive-behavioral, and family systems approaches.
My therapeutic orientation encourages me to see people as unique individuals who have particular strengths. While building on these strengths, we focus on issues in their past and current relationships that are causing difficulties. Within the context of an empathic and confidential relationship, psychological growth and comfort are possible.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
