Female Therapists in Seattle, WA
Therapy is a wonderful opportunity for personal growth. It is also helpful in overcoming human experiences such as anxiety and depression, for improving relationships and for changing behaviors that may be hindering our quality of life. It is common to experience hesitation or ambivalence when starting therapy, much like many other new beginnings.

I also work with individuals and help them through a myriad of other mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, existential questions, grief & loss, faith transitions/crisis/journeys, moral injury, social anxiety, body image, eating disorders, suicide, trauma, women's issues, infertility, and many others.
Sometimes you just need a safe and confidential space to sort it all out. Life and relationships can challenge us to our very limits as we try to love other people and hold onto our own sense of self at the same time. It can feel overwhelming to navigate the emotions, interaction cycles, and patterns at play in relationships. As difficult as these challenges are, they are ultimately the key to our personal growth and development. I work with couples who want a better partnership, and want to feel heard, valued, and understood. I help them find genuine connection in their emotional, mental, spiritual, and intimate relationship.

My approach to therapy is authentic, warm, and honest. I use a collaborative and non-judgmental approach with my clients to support them in discovering their goals for therapy, finding new perspectives, and disrupting harmful patterns that may be showing up. I draw from a number of evidence-based treatment styles and tailor my approach to each individual but am inherently person-centered and strengths-based.

Everyone should have the mental health resources to live their best lives, which includes a strong sexual voice and confident gender expression. There is an immense amount of guilt and shame in our culture that negatively affects how we perceive and receive sex, sexuality, and gender. Vulnerable populations have been targeted with specific, hurtful sexual and gendered stereotypes that can increase psychological distress. As a person of color, I am happy to contribute my perspective and lived experience to the field and your choice of therapists. Sex affects everyone, and it merits focused attention in the mental health field.

Do you want to feel confident, at peace, trusting of yourself, and more connected in relationships, but feel stuck in some of this instead?: if I stop pushing myself so hard, I won’t be good enough; if I share my feelings or ask for what I need it'll be too much; I can't show the real me; I should be able to just handle this myself. Folks I work with are often seeking support with things underpinning or accompanying such feelings, including: anxiety, stress, negative thought loops, difficulty with self-esteem, trauma, challenges with boundary setting, and feeling disconnected.

When a painful event or memories influence how we interpret our lives, we can often find ourselves stuck in patterns of avoiding, numbing, overworking, obsessing, etc. Despite our best efforts to push through, we start getting signals that something is off and that a deeper issue could be the cause. These signals can present as any range of symptoms (ie anxiety, depression, irritability) or relational difficulties, that sometimes gently, and often times urgently, tell us that we need care.

Many of us are feeling overwhelmed and stressed out right now. Recent and ongoing events are likely to trigger things that have happened in our past and can make it even more difficult to get through the day. Maybe you're feeling guilty because you feel like you "should" be grateful right now, but you really just feel awful. Whatever you are going through, talking to a therapist can be a lifesaver. We can help you make sense of what is going on in the world and your life, and help you feel supported and empowered in this time of uncertainty. We are here to be your non-judgemental support.

Healing happens through experience, and having a consistent, non-judgmental ear can help you see things in a new light. Together we may talk, move, create and explore your feelings. I will guide you through your depths so that you can reconnect to the source, get to know yourself, and come to terms with the past. Maybe you've hit a wall with talk therapy. Perhaps you want to be more present, bolster your own practice, or stop engaging in patterns that cause you pain. I approach you as a human being and help you grow into a fuller version of yourself.

I specialize in psychotherapy for adults with a range of concerns including anxiety, depression and relationship issues. I work with clients individually to come to a shared understanding of current difficulties as well as ongoing patterns that contribute to symptoms. Once we understand how and why these difficulties and patterns developed, we can then work towards modifying them and minimizing obstacles to change as they become apparent.

"Normal is nothing more than a setting on a dishwasher." -Whoopie Goldberg. Remembering that normal is a myth when it comes to being human helps ease the harsh self criticism that often interferes with exploring our inner worlds with kindness and curiosity. This is the posture I take as I work alongside adults and teens who want to deepen their relationship with themselves and thrive despite circumstances. They may find themselves struggling with relationships, ongoing emotional disturbance, feelings of depression and/or anxiety, trauma (past or present), and difficult life transitions among other concerns.

Life is way too short to feel like your best isn't good enough. Too short to fear you will not be accepted as you are and feel as though you have to live in your own shadow. You do not have to avoid certain people, places, or feelings to feel in control of your body. Could you be holding yourself back from being your best self? Kind of like self-sabotage? Do you have difficulty trusting others or building bonds out of fear they are just going to leave you? This could lead to experiencing difficulty maintaining any type of relationship.
