Immediate availability. I'm open to a broad client base but most often work with college students, pro athletes/entertainers & their family members. I ran the mental health services for UW athletics & am the consulting clinician for the MLB and the NHL. I work best with driven people experiencing a big change. Perhaps, despite your best efforts, things aren’t working out as you’d hoped. Or perhaps you’ve gotten all you wanted and it doesn’t satisfy. Though I often work with athletes I am not a Sports Psych. In fact, I don’t even follow sports! I’m here for the rest of your life and identity.

At the PBC, we help people who struggle with problems that they feel are impossible to change, understand, or even think about. Our clients come to us because they are depressed, anxious, in bad relationships, and can't see a path forward. We work well with people who are sensitive and creative, and need someone to help them understand what they've been through and how it impacts them in the here-and-now. Doing this kind of work with someone you trust offers the best hope for lasting change. We don't work well with people who want to be "fixed" without coming to know themselves better in the process.

I help people heal from anxiety, trauma, and disconnection from self and others. You might be struggling to figure out who you are or how you feel. Perhaps you're anxious much of the time. Past experiences keep getting in the way of living your current life. You're struggling to make connections with friends and loved ones, or you have a hard time asserting yourself with the people in your life. You've been experiencing these issues for years, and you've tried to change them on your own, but the changes don't stick. You're ready to get to the root of things so you can really shift the way your life is unfolding.

While a desire to find meaningful connection with self and others appears universal, the everyday experiences of life often hold quite the opposite. Trauma, betrayal, loss, addiction, big life changes (and we can go on and on), can contribute to a variety of mental health concerns, and perpetuate dynamics that are not life-giving. Such dynamics are hard to put into words, so you are left looking for a safe space to tell your story and gain more insight into what shaped you, what motivates you, and what supports patterns of thinking and behavior that no longer serve you.

I believe everyone holds the keys to their own healing inside themselves, and my job is to create a safe and non-judgmental space to help you find them. I enjoy supporting people to navigate life challenges and seek wholeness and resiliency. I have mainly worked in community mental health, and have a passion for reducing barriers to the type of care that people desire. I saw directly how interactions with the systems that our societies have built up cause people harm, in particular those from historically marginalized groups. I have experience working with folks who are BIPoC, immigrants, LGBTQIA+, and gender diverse.

My practice is rooted in the idea that symptoms such as anxiety, disruption, or discontent can guide us in life if we step beyond formulas and certainties, toward a more curious and imaginative mode of being. By artfully seeking to understand emotional suffering, and through deepening relational connection, we can arrive at relief and healing. Uncovering and accommodating what has been previously outside of awareness releases meaning and allows for greater freedom of thought, self-expression, and wholeness.

I approach people with an open, genuine, and transparent posture, which hopefully helps others feel welcome to be themselves. My clients have described me as warm, gentle, inviting, and relatable. I work with adults, adolescents, and their families—individually and as parts of a whole. I welcome individuals and families of all backgrounds, cultures, and identities. As someone who aligns with narrative therapy, I understand that everyone’s unique experiences may have influenced how they interact with the world, and my hope is that together—we can help you create and support preferred ways of living.

I enjoy working with people from all walks of life and with diverse backgrounds to address issues of depression, anxiety/stress, ADHD, trauma, relationship struggles, and adjustment to life changes. I have particular interest in late teen/young adult development, trauma recovery and growth, and supporting those who work in other “helping” professions (healthcare, childcare, education, etc). I am honored and humbled by the opportunity to share in each person’s journey, providing encouragement, asking questions, and helping them identify and connect with what adds value/meaning to their lives.

Everyone has a story to tell. I want to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients can tell their story, reflect on where they have been, and make intentional choices that will get them closer to where they want to be. It's important to me to work with the whole person and to acknowledge the interconnected systems that we move through every day that affect us, our relationships, and our environment. Through trust, curiosity, and reflection, I am excited to work with clients to tell their own story the way they want to tell it.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
