I work from a person-centered perspective and often use approaches that facilitate body, mind, and soul connection including Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, self-compassion, and body-centered therapies.
Accepting new clients. Developing compassion for ourselves is a gateway for healing and stepping into authentic power. In a world where trauma, disconnection, and oppressive systems can shape our reality, I seek to support clients in their journey of actualizing the truth and profound potential that is in their core Self. In our work together we will explore what is wanting to transform and how to develop a more compassionate way of honoring yourself and your story. My approach is nonjudgmental and heart-centered. I seek to create a space where it is safe for you to be real, speak your truth, and be seen.

I am a person-centered therapist who sees adult individual clients in person & presently expanding my hours so there may be openings now. My approach integrates a number of perspectives, including the connection of mind, body and emotions, and empathy-based communication. As one example, I sometimes use motivational interviewing, positive psychology, non-violent communication, and mindfulness to help clients make deeper contact with feelings, identify needs, and find expression. This can help to alleviate anxiety or depression in some people, towards increased connection and satisfaction. Feel free to contact me to explore more.

Through collaboration and compassion, I support clients who are often stuck inside their own heads. I practice through a trauma-informed intersectional lens, because I understand the pressures of systems, culture, and daily interactions. Through understanding your story we work together to get of our heads, and express the grief, imposter syndrome, anger, or other thoughts that are taking up so much time and energy from you.

Psychotherapy involves entering into the stuck places of your life and listening for how you struggle to live freely and authentically. It involves discovering, caring for, and reshaping the parts of your mind that are related to the problems you experience. This may involve learning to recognize unhelpful responses to pain that have themselves evolved into addictive or compulsive behaviors, addressing problematic relational patterns or making room to feel the deep hurts of loss or trauma and learning how to live well with the wounds that have shaped you.

** Please Note: I am currently NOT accepting new clients** Are you frustrated and discouraged with the quality of your relationships with others? Do you wish that there were a manual or rule book that came with the people you love? Relationships are the most cherished and yet confounding things that we as humans long to have, and we get very little guidance about how to make and maintain them. Whether you are in a relationship with a friend, lover, spouse, or child, I can help you learn ways to find fulfillment, stability, and joy.

You are trying so hard but it never seem good enough; You are exhausted but can’t seem to rest; You’ve tried to find peace but you can’t seem to quiet your mind; You feel like you are always letting someone down; You catch yourself asking “what is the point”. You want to feel at ease with yourself; You want to feel enough without having to be perfect; You want to feel connected with your loved ones; You want to feel in control of your life; You want to feel present in important moments; You want to find joy and passion once again.

My approach is rooted in the belief that how we relate to ourselves mirrors how we experience life and develop relationships. Not many of us were taught how to compassionately attend to our painful feelings, critical thoughts, or impulsive behaviors. Instead, we may have been scolded, shamed, or sent away for showing big feelings such as anger or sadness, praised for being self-reliant, or withdrawn from by parents who did not have the capacity to be with our feelings. When we can begin to shift from judgment and avoidance of the parts of ourselves that we may not approve of to curiosity; healing can begin.

I offer a supportive, respectful approach to counseling that is rooted in the practice of mindfulness.
Spirituality is the foundation of the form of synthesized addiction and mental health counseling I offer. My clients engage in the powerful experience of looking within to reconnect with their own Self, which powerfully transforms relationships with others, and most importantly, the relationship with oneself. Throughout this individualized process, clients are better able to release self-destructive thought and behavior patterns, which greatly enhances the quality of life. I have counseled many in and out of addiction recovery and am well versed in spiritual recovery methods and trauma-informed healing modalities.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
