My ideal client is someone ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery. Clients who resonate with my approach often seek a therapist grounded in curiosity, compassion, strength, and insight. I work from a psychodynamic approach, which seeks to understand symptoms rather than just manage them, views most human experiences as containing conflicting thoughts and feelings, and believes that self-honesty is fundamental to growth and healing. In practice, clients generally choose where to begin a psychodynamic session and move freely from there.

Our clients are high achieving millennials, identity-developing gen-zers, people in transition, and people who think deeply about themselves and their growth. Our clients are asking: Why do my emotions feel so out of hand? How do I understand my relational patterns? How is my experience of trauma showing up in my every day life? Do I have ADHD? Do I have bipolar? Am I on the right medication? Should I take a break from work? How do I manage difficult relationships?

I specialize in grief and loss; LGBTQ+ issues; depression and anxiety; and trauma processing. I approach therapy from a place of curiosity, humor, and collaboration. It can be difficult to go through challenges alone and sometimes we need an outside perspective to challenge the unhelpful and negative narratives we have constructed for ourselves during those challenging times. I am here to help uncover and create a narrative that reflects your strengths and intrinsic identity.

To know and to be known authentically is a human desire, but there are times that we are misunderstood, not cared for properly, and plain old hurt in the process of trying to be vulnerable. In the most painful times we blow up or shut down emotionally. My work with adult men is geared towards understanding the stories in your past and present so that you can feel more like yourself in your career, friendships, and relationships.

Hi - my name is Sabrina! I am a psychodynamic trauma therapist. I specialize in working with adults around topics of trauma/abuse, relationships and attachment in the greater Seattle area. I believe therapy is a place where the difficult questions can be explored, healing can begin, and integration can be accomplished. Life brings all that is unexpected, confusing and extreme. Our experiences often leave us disintegrated and in need of outside help. My work’s focus is to create a space where individuals can explore the why’s and the questions of their story so that they may live a more flourishing and integrated life.

I'm a solution-focused, results-oriented counselor with a passion for helping people in the most efficient yet comprehensive manner possible. My clients and I identify opportunities for growth in all three aspects of mental health: behaviors, thoughts and emotions. I then suggest evidence-based treatment methods to match our specified goals. This often includes lifestyle change, healthy habit formation and cognitive therapy. Most often, I work with clients' present-day experiences, with less focus on the past. Many of my clients tell me that traditional talk therapy has not worked for them, and they want to try something different.

As an organization we recognize that QTBIPoC folx tend to experience disproportionate amounts of mental health disparities due to large gaps in our current mental healthcare system. Here at MEND we believe that part of addressing those gaps is through the consistency of our intersectional feminist lens. In an effort to promote equity, we are expanding our team and client population to include members who hold identities that have not traditionally been offered at MEND. And while we center supporting QTBIPoC folx, we also offer services to those who do not hold these identities.

Navigating Relationships can be a difficult process that requires guidance and support. When our relationships are struggling and we are feeling let down by our partner or friends, it can take a toll on our mental health. It is my desire as your therapist to offer guidance and support to help you find ways to help your relationships grow and become more fulfilling. It is my passion to help and empower others to extend the same love and empathy they would towards others onto themselves. We all need reminders that our needs are just as important as others, and it is my goal to support you in that practice.

I work with individuals, couples, and families (Telehealth and In-Person) who are experiencing some stress or anxiety in their lives and have decided to attend therapy to address and resolve those issues. Clients will develop tools and strategies to navigate life and thrive in a more healthy way. Some clients prefer assignments between sessions, some prefer psycho-education, and others still prefer therapy focused on emotion. I work with clients to determine how they want to work in therapy, and in turn, clients feel agency over the change they create in their lives. I believe this change best occurs in a safe, trusting environment.

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and am comfortable and skilled helping you cope with trauma, suicidal thoughts, and family issues.
I believe that all humans deserve to live a life that gives them personal fulfillment, peace, and more joy than hardship. I can help you work through life transitions, trauma, and all of the fear, anxiety, depression, and big emotions that come with them. I tend towards practices of mindfulness, grounding, acceptance, and nature- focused therapies, but my background is in biology, so I also tend to be pragmatic, evidence-focused, and like to help you understand the "why" of the practice as you take it on.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
