I specialize in working with women and men who struggle with complex trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship/family issues, sexual abuse, PTSD, body image and spirituality.
**CURRENTLY OFFERING TELETHERAPY SESSIONS in ARIZONA & WASHINGTON** Relationships can be challenging, particularly the ones that are most important to us. We want to feel known, connected and loved but often end up hurt and lonely, stuck in patterns which aren't working. Relational pain can show up as anxiety, fear, depression or grief among other things. I have extensive training in Psychodyamic Therapy. I have also learned directly from masters in the field of Couples Therapy: John & Julie Gottman and Phil Ringstrom to address these very issues.

Through graduate training, clinical experience, and research, I have developed expertise in the following areas: men and masculinity; eating disorders and body image concerns; mental health concerns related to spirituality/faith; healing from trauma and unwanted sexual experiences; positive psychology; and health psychology.
Thank you for visiting my profile. I provide psychotherapy and assessment services to adults (individuals, couples, and groups) who are struggling to thrive. I help others increase insight into their struggles and make concrete changes toward experiencing a more fulfilling life. During difficult times it is common to struggle with daily functioning while also trying to heal broader psychological and emotional concerns (e.g., trauma, relational struggles, problematic behavior). Therefore, I often will establish short-term and long-term goals, collaboratively with you, so that counseling can be sustainable, supportive, and effective.

I am happy to welcome those clients who want to explore spirituality within our work together. I am experienced in counseling GLBTQ clients and clients who identify as poly or kink. I enjoy working with bereaved parents and artists, musicians, and writers.

I believe talk therapy can get us far, but somatic work can get us further- allowing us to reclaim our body’s inherent resiliency and ability to regulate. Maybe you have done a lot of beautiful self-work but are ready for deeper nervous system regulation. You might feel ready to move beyond recovery and into more ease and joy. You may have a part that feels stuck, but an even bigger one that wants to heal. Perhaps you're ready for deeper spiritual and identity work. I work best with people who are ready to get out of their head and into the body.

From your earliest memory until now, there have been countless versions of you. You are not a fixed, autonomous entity consistent across time, but rather fluid and continuously changing. In each new moment you have the opportunity to create who you want to be in the next. Sometimes in these moments, however, you might begin to define yourself, others, or the world in a way that impairs mental health. These shifting perspectives may also be particularly evident in your most intimate relationships, leading to patterns or cycles that can be hard to break. As a therapist, I'm interested in root causes rather than treating symptoms.

If you feel like you're "not enough," let's talk. You may think you're not smart enough, not successful enough, not accomplished enough... or just simply not "good" enough. You may already know those accusations aren't true, but they still just feel so real. Your "not enough" might be spiritual: "I don't see how I fit into the bigger picture." Or, your "not enough" might be based in identity: "I don't know who I really am," or, "No one will love me for who I really am." There are countless reasons people get stuck in feeling like they're "not enough." Whatever your specific reasons are, I want to help you discover your "enough."

By understanding yourself in a deeper way, I strive for clients to have better intimacy, communication, and satisfaction from their relationships and internal world. I believe change happens when we leverage your curiosity to co-create an environment where awareness, honesty, and freedom can occur. I am especially passionate partnering with client’s who have a drive for their own transformation through curiously engaging their story, journey, and style of relating.

With over 50 years experience, I have successfully dealt with many treatment issues. The basic ingredient in any therapy is the quality of the relationship. I am an actively involved therapist, usually seeking an in-depth resolution of problem issues. Emotional freedom results from an understanding, respect, and acceptance of our individuality.

Do you ever wonder why others seem to be living their best lives while you feel like you’re wandering, worried you’re not doing things right? You’re under a lot of pressure and want to feel confident and free, but instead you catch yourself thinking things like: “Am I happy?” “Am I making the right decisions to get me to where I want to go?” “Where do I want to go?” “Am I actually living the life I want to live?” Instead of feeling in control of your life, you feel uneasy, restless, and confused. Deep down, you know you are worthy a fulfilling life, but you don’t know how to get there.

I specialize in Art Therapy and utilize art and creativity in session. I can provide a wide array of visual and expressive tools to help strengthen your creative voice and find deeper meaning through imagery and metaphor. Good therapy looks radically different for each person, but it always starts with carving out an hour in your routine to make time for yourself, to reflect, to share, and to explore your inner landscape. I am here to partner alongside individuals, couples, and families as they navigate life's inevitable highs and lows. I provide compassionate, person-centered talk therapy.

Are you ready to overcome the belief that something is wrong with you? Do you struggle with: low self-esteem, dis-empowerment, creating healthy relationships, setting boundaries, self-compassion, or self-care? These issues are common in our society today- there is a collective belief that somehow, no matter what we do, we are intrinsically flawed or broken. We have traded the sacred truth of our own experience for self-aggression, self-judgment, and self-loathing, and we feel miserable.

I am a therapist with ADHD, so I love working with clients who have ADHD. I think our similar brains strengthen our understanding of each other and therefore our therapeutic connection. I will never tell you to just “try harder” or “buy a planner” or other things that neurotypicals have said to you (although I do love some good office supplies). Everyone with ADHD is different and deserves personalized exploration of their needs and barriers to help manage symptoms and achieve functioning goals. I also love working with couples who have ADHD, including mixed neurotype couples who are working to better understand one another.

Our clients are high achieving millennials, identity-developing gen-zers, people in transition, and people who think deeply about themselves and their growth. Our clients are asking: Why do my emotions feel so out of hand? How do I understand my relational patterns? How is my experience of trauma showing up in my every day life? Do I have ADHD? Do I have bipolar? Am I on the right medication? Should I take a break from work? How do I manage difficult relationships?

Spirituality Therapists

What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?

Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?

There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?

Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?

Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
