I believe my job as your therapist is to create a safe place for you to be understood and accepted. Therapy can be a powerful place to create meaning and connection, growth and change. Together we can explore what this looks like for you. I will always offer a warm, empathic listening environment and you will know I authentically care about you and whatever you are facing.

I offer individual and group grief counseling to grievers. As a suicide-bereaved mother myself, I offer traumatic grief counseling to parents and other grievers. Because child loss can be so isolating, bereaved parents often find companionship in a group to be a comfort on this difficult lifelong path. While religious/spiritual notions can be a support, often they are not. As people of conscience, we can lean into what comforts and release what is no longer helpful; sometimes clients grapple with their changing beliefs in sessions. Traumatic grief often leads to changes in beliefs and I companion that exploration. I am a humanist.

My name is Stephen Wallinger and I am a Licensed Mental Health Counseling Associate (LMHCA). For the past 5 years I’ve been an Elementary School Counselor where I worked with children (ages 5-11), families, and school staff. During that time I gained a wide range of experience supporting individuals of all ages who are facing anxiety, depression, trauma, ADHD, and suicidal ideation, as well as issues related executive functioning and individuals with ASD. Additionally, I supported families and staff by connecting them to evidence based resources and provided various strategies to further help individuals overcome challenges.

I work with adults who struggle to fit the mold of what's expected for them - by the people in their lives, by dominant cultural narratives, or by their own internal messaging. There are so many stories of who we are "supposed" to be - it can be overwhelming and disheartening to be met with struggle everywhere you turn and to not feel like you're living your most authentic life. While I welcome clients of many different backgrounds, I have particular experience working with clients experiencing chronic illness & pain, anxiety & depression, low self-worth, indecision, and disconnection from others.

We have all been in the midst of deep personal and collective transformation over the past years. There is a greater awareness among us all about what is not working both personally and collectively. I am here as a guide to walk with you through this portal of change. I am a trauma-informed therapist and my approach to therapy acknowledges the impact that stressful experiences can have on our mind, body, and spirit. I can support you in releasing any deeply embedded patterns that limit your ability to feel connected and show up fully in the world.

You might be realizing you need support - that maybe you’re not handling things as well as you’d hoped. Maybe the What Ifs & the doubts have taken over, or you’re not feeling motivated anymore. You’re not sure how it started, but you’re tired of feeling this way. It scares you to think nothing will change. Maybe you’ve had a loss in your life, or maybe you’re just not happy with how often you use your phone/TV, weed, or alcohol to cope with things. Maybe you're not sure what to do to make changes. Maybe this is the first time you've considered counseling - if so, kudos for taking that first step.
