Utilizing the latest research from the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), ICS views addiction as a chronic, relapsing brain disorder. We believe that addiction alters brain function critical to decision-making, learning, memory, and behavior control. With this in mind, we work with our clients to build a framework for understanding their compulsive and self-destructive behaviors and help them in creating a plan to prevent relapse from happening. Ultimately, we want our clients to build a positive sober identity and thrive in recovery.

I firmly believe in our ability to make change in our lives. For most of us, change occurs through a series of small imperfect steps and frustratingly, not always even moving in a forward direction. Change involves evaluating longstanding patterns and considering whether those patterns fit with the life you want for yourself today. Embarking upon this path requires being gentle with yourself at the start and throughout the process. Sometimes even this gentleness must be learned and practiced. Please note that I have a few openings in my practice at this time but they are exclusively between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm Mon-Thursday.

It can be difficult to reach out for help. I hope to make this easier by providing a warm, inviting experience without unnecessary pressure. I believe in allowing my clients to drive their own healing processes through new insight into their problem areas, and by helping them build skills for lasting results. I particularly enjoy working with clients who have never experienced the benefits of therapy. My clients range in age from 22 through 94.

I believe that therapy can help us see the unconscious patterns of behavior that we unknowingly live our lives within; that it can help us find some distance from our up-close feelings, and see ourselves with kindness; that it can bring vitality to stagnation, and enliven our sense of creativity; that it can help us pursue our desires; that it can be a place where we wrestle with the things we thought were true, and find comfort in the midst of uncertainty; that it can reveal something about the relationships we seek; and that it can teach us how to grieve our yesterdays, find gratitude for today, and hope for tomorrow.

I believe the therapy space is a sacred space - a time focused completely on you, where you are supported, listened to, and seen. Navigating life is complex, but it doesn't have to feel hard. Whether you are experiencing anxiety, depression, relationship issues, feelings of low self-worth, or desiring to heal from past trauma, my approach is the same. You will be met with deep care and compassion, as well as a desire to understand what is bringing you to therapy right now. I will also challenge you in sessions to help you see unhelpful patterns and core-based beliefs that are inhibiting your growth, happiness, and well-being.

Counseling is a space where we focus with intensity and grace on the areas of life that feel chaotic or stagnant. It’s a space to bring understanding to parts that have remained silent or provide comfort to the internal voices that have needed to be too loud. It’s a space to become more connected and integrated, more whole.

Being open to understanding more about yourself takes courage. You may envision something new, but you don’t know how to get there. There may be an inner struggle of whether you are worthy or deserve to be happy. In counseling you get to be seen and heard for all that you are. With curiosity and warmth, I will listen and support you in identifying what you'd like to shift in your life to bring a sense relief and ease while more closely meeting your needs and living in balance with your values.

Life can be difficult, however sometimes wrong or difficult choices bring us to the right places. I believe as human beings we at some point have experienced stressors that have had some type of impact on our lives. Stressors can be complicated and usually center around our thoughts, feelings (otherwise known as emotions), and behaviors. Understanding those thoughts are what drives our behaviors good, bad happy or sad. My role is to partner with clients to help them improve coping skills to better manage daily life.

Sometimes feelings and behaviors become obstacles to accessing your strength. If you don't accept yourself as you are, you can't change--a paradox, but true. Self-acceptance can be difficult, especially with history of abuse, trauma, or opression in which shame/guilt become integral to your sense of self. Destructive behavior, in whatever form, has its own logic, but is understandable given your history. We cope in ways that serve to protect ourselves in childhood--serving a useful purpose back then. But now, they prevent you from having stable, close relationships and feeling an empowered sense of self.

I am excited to work with you in seeking more effective ways to cope with personal struggles and find the tools to thrive. I provide a safe and respectful space where you can explore unhealthy patterns that keep you stuck from living your most authentic life. By identifying your personal values and reframing unhelpful thoughts, we will explore ways to create direction, purpose, and change in your life. I use playfulness, curiosity, and laughter to support the therapy process. I also lean towards a more goal oriented approach so expect to have “therapy homework” outside of session to focus on!

I'm a perinatal and co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders specialist. I work with individuals ages 16-35 experiencing anxiety, depression, substance use, emotion dysregulation, life transitions, stress, and challenges in relationships within families of origin. I'm particularly passionate about supporting individuals in pregnancy/postpartum and new parents. The transition to parenthood is so unique and everyone deserves support. My style is warm, genuine, and direct. I often use humor with my clients, when appropriate, because laughter can be a very powerful tool and often helps foster a sense of trust and alliance.
