Do you struggle with issues like emotional and sexual intimacy? Do you struggle with the ability to experience sexual pleasure and orgasm? Do you experience anxiety about your sexual ability, performance or out of control sexual behaviors? Are there desire or sexual preference discrepancies in your relationship that are a source of conflict affecting the level of connection with your partner and your self-worth? Do your sexual preferences, kinks, or orientation not conform to societal expectations resulting in feelings of hopelessness, isolation or shame? If any of this describes your experience, I would love to meet you.

Life is hard. Sometimes you can feel in control and then something unexpected knocks you down. Sometimes you might not even be able to recognize what is causing you so much stress. There are many factors and systems, like family, community, and culture, that affect problems. I work to help you better understand the factors affecting you and the depth and breadth of resources that can help to accomplish your goals. I specialize in working with people who have experienced trauma, as well as people experiencing anxiety, stress or family conflict.

There comes a time when we are forced to meet ourselves, hard as we might try to avoid it. It can happen for different reasons and during different life stages. Maybe you’re experiencing a big change that’s bringing everything up all at once, or perhaps you’re realizing the mask you’ve been wearing doesn’t quite fit right anymore. What you’ve always done is no longer working for you, and the new things you’ve tried so far aren't cutting it. And while you feel ready for change, the path forward feels messy, confusing, and overwhelming.

Do you feel stuck but also don’t quite know where to start to make positive changes in your life? Most of us have been there. In this increasingly complex world it can be difficult to create moments of peace and contentment, and listen to our inner voice. We are constantly bombarded by different types of stimuli. Despite so many ways to communicate with people, sometimes it feels like no one is really listening to what we have to say. How are we supposed to foster joy, gratitude, have satisfying and meaningful relationships like this? If you have had these thoughts a little too often, maybe it is time for us to work together.

My patients are usually hard working adults who have run into some tough times or are experiencing difficult emotional issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and addictions. I focus on using a strengths-based and harm reduction approach, which views each person as an individual with unique strengths and challenges. Using this approach values the person and facilitates a customized treatment plan for the individual. My role is not to judge you or your behaviors, but to act as an independent consultant for improving your mental well-being and quality of life.

As a mental health professional, I want to assure you that it is completely normal to feel overwhelmed and lost at times. It is important to recognize when you are struggling and to seek help. It is not a sign of weakness to ask for support, but rather a sign of strength and self-awareness. There are many resources available to help you, including therapy, support groups, and self-care activities. It is never too late to start taking care of yourself and to work towards a happier and healthier life. It may be difficult to make the first step, but trust that it will be worth it in the long run. You deserve to feel better and to live

My practice is informed by my eclectic educational background, eastern and indigenous teachings, and the body’s innate sense of wisdom. I consider myself to be a warm, grounding individual, and am here to learn from you and walk with you on your mental health journey. I have learned a great deal about the ‘mind-body split’ and the reality that western therapy often leaves the body and spirit out of the picture, much to our detriment. I work with clients to begin building relationships with their bodies, nervous systems, and greater selves, with the goal of increased coping skills, embodiment, resiliency and neuroplasticity.

My approach to therapy is person-centered, holistic, and strengths-based. I believe clients are the experts of their own stories, and my role as a therapist is to create a safe space for individuals to explore intersecting aspects of their identities. Therapy is not about asking “what’s wrong” and instead about building upon existing client strengths in order to create a meaningful and rich life. My toolbox consists of a variety of counseling modalities. I am certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dreamwork and Dream Arts Therapy.

I work with individuals who are curious about strengthening their understanding of themselves and connecting to the mystery of their inner intelligence. I believe that every individual has a story worth nurturing. These stories often direct us to what deeply matters which can lead to painful experiences. Sometimes we recall aspects of the past or think about scenarios in the future that signal themes of love and connection, risk and death, beauty, and even tragedy. The narratives we tell our soul can create problems that often manifest as symptoms of depression, anxiety, posttraumatic stress, addiction, and relational difficulties.

Life is a process of continuously understanding ourselves more deeply and wholly. At times this can be delightful and at times it can be arduous and painful. My hope for our work together is that no matter where you are in your journey, I can create a space that is safe to bring and explore your whole self. I work from a psychodynamic and attachment lens to more deeply understand your inner experience and the way you exist in the world. I hold that relationality is one of the anchors of meaningful living.

It was a long time coming, but somehow, it still doesn’t feel real. You spent so much time and energy building a life with your spouse. But now that the marriage is over, it feels like it was all for nothing. The bright future you’ve been dreaming about is destroyed – the new one is dark and frightening. You can’t stop thinking about where things went wrong. Is it my fault? Should I have done something differently? Have I made a huge mistake? You’ve defined your identity as part of this relationship for so long that you’re unsure who you are outside of it. And you’re scared to make a new plan for your life when the last one failed.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
