In therapy I connect with you in a deep way to empower you in your struggles. Most of us hope to connect with others in an intimate way and to have an impact on the world. I believe we internalize ways of relating in childhood and this informs the ways in which we relate with others in the present. The therapeutic relationship can be a safe place to see more clearly who we are in order that we might be freed to make different and conscious choices. This awareness can help you to know yourself more, to live an intentional life and have meaningful impact on the world.

I believe that therapy can help us see the unconscious patterns of behavior that we unknowingly live our lives within; that it can help us find some distance from our up-close feelings, and see ourselves with kindness; that it can bring vitality to stagnation, and enliven our sense of creativity; that it can help us pursue our desires; that it can be a place where we wrestle with the things we thought were true, and find comfort in the midst of uncertainty; that it can reveal something about the relationships we seek; and that it can teach us how to grieve our yesterdays, find gratitude for today, and hope for tomorrow.

That's not the way life should be. Good psychotherapy promotes healing. Good psychotherapy allows you to resume building a life that has meaning and value to you. Good psychotherapy works. Neuropsychotherapy works faster.

My therapeutic orientation is psychodynamic in nature, and based on the observation that people are often unaware of unconscious influences that determine their thoughts and actions.  Lack of awareness can often lead to behavior that constrains their ability to fully comprehend or work through the difficulties they are facing.  My hope is to help remove problematic symptoms that prohibit individuals from participating in meaningful relationships with themselves and others, while working toward leading a full and productive life as an active and positive contributor to their community.

Brené Brown says that disappointment happens when expectations don't meet reality. If you are expecting a therapist who offers brief, solution, or behavior-focused therapy, I am not a good fit for you. I'd rather be the Sam to your Frodo, aka "I can't carry the ring for you, but I can carry you." If you don't get that reference, then "these are not the droids you're looking for." I thrive working with the complex, quirky clients who worry they are too broken, too weird, or too much. ADHD, ASD, PTSD, and LGBTQIA clients are my jam, along with folks who have left a religious or high control group and are deconstructing. I see you.

As a Black Woman raised in the South, now residing in the Pacific Northwest, I know too well the impact that some life transitions can have on identity. They leave you desperately clinging to who you’ve always been while trying to dodge who you’re now forced to become. Somewhere in the midst of the transition, you started realizing that who you’ve “always been”, was never your true identity. Now you’re grappling with confusion, a loss of direction, and the seemingly unanswerable question “who am I”? Truth is, your identity is rooted in narratives you didn’t write and they may no longer fit who your are or support your growth.

I work with folks who are dealing with a wide range of challenges. I can help you navigate the impact of trauma on your daily life as you work to integrate lessons from the past and find hope for the future. My hope is that our work can guide you towards reconnection, an enriched relationship with yourself, an invigorating relationship with others and an intentional connection to your present moment.

Do you ever worry that you're 'too much' or 'not enough'? Would you be happier if you were different? Those feelings are common, especially for people of marginalized identity. In the therapy space, my goal is to deconstruct narratives about what you're 'supposed' to be and instead, help you love who you are right now. I specialize in supporting individuals as they navigate the complexities of LGBTQ+ identities, trauma, alternative relationship dynamics, and intersectionality.

You may be dealing with a lot of anxiety and/or depression and find it hard to function well in many areas of your life. You experienced a traumatic event, or several traumas and the after-effects continue to trouble you. Maybe you've tried a lot of ways to feel better but still feel stuck.

As a therapist, I believe we all deserve the space to heal, grow, and awaken to our authentic selves. It can be challenging in our culture and society to listen to our own inner-knowings. Even more challenging if we struggle with anxiety, ADHD, trauma, life transitions, and issues with self-esteem. You are not broken; you are learning and healing in a broken world. That's why I believe in helping clients access their inherent strength and wisdom. Through somatic and experiential therapies that draw on nervous system regulation, mindfulness, and self-compassion, I help my folks meet reality with more resilience and self-trust.

“Shame dies when stories are told in a safe environment”. I believe that building a safe and genuine relationship with clients is essential in facilitating healing. Relating to others in an empathetic and genuine way has always been my nature, and I bring these to my counseling sessions. I believe that when we help our clients recognize their own strength and resiliency, they discover a new potential within themselves. I feel a special connection working with clients who identify as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP). I am excited to use my knowledge and experience to help them work through their unique struggles.

I do not see the term “mental health” as meaning “absence of stress, problems or psychological challenges,” but the learned ability to keep on functioning and living your best life possible, in spite of these things. Thank you for considering letting me witness and, hopefully, take part in your story!

I love working with adults who are stepping into their personal power and developing identity, as well as establishing relationships and intimacy with others. I also enjoy helping clients transmute their anxiety and release old family patterns that are no longer serving them. Ultimately, I offer therapy for a wide range of concerns. My therapeutic orientation is toward depth and transpersonal psychology. I want nothing more than to help you discover and value the truth about yourself. To that end, I may invite you to try visualization and guided imagery, dreamwork, or Family Constellation work during the course of our time together.
