We all encounter situations that feel overwhelming and test our coping abilities. I see therapy as a collaborative process that will help you navigate the challenges and transitions that life presents. I offer a safe, supportive environment to talk about issues that can be difficult to discuss elsewhere. Together we will explore how certain thoughts, behavior patterns, and past experiences might be contributing to your difficulties. We will identify your strengths and figure out effective coping strategies to create positive changes in your life. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples.

At the core of my work as a therapist is the relationship we create between us. My style is empathic, strengths-based and direct. I will assist you in understanding your emotional patterns, help you find your way through life transitions, to strengthen and repair your boundaries and relationships, and learn new ways of coping and thinking about your life story.

Making changes and building a life worth living can be overwhelming when you don't understand why you keep repeating the same patterns of behavior, over and over. It's even more frustrating when you try to do things to feel better, but don't understand why you're failing to make progress. But there is hope! I work with clients who have felt stuck, often for many years, to identify patterns of thoughts and behaviors that get in the way of their goals, and work together to create sustainable changes. I specialize in working with clients who find themselves stuck in patterns of anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues.

Working together, we can address your concerns. The majority of my work is helping individuals who are dealing with anxiety, life transitions, career counseling, or loss and grief.

I hold a deep regard and compassion for each individual and the ways they have learned to survive. I view therapy as a collaborative journey towards integration of self and expansion of the potentials already inherent in you. In line with this, I aim for our work together to be as liberatory as possible. I see you as the expert of your own story and as holding the potential for your own healing. In our time together we can work to uncover what gets in the way of your inherent ability to flourish, be it internal, relational or rooted in the social environment in which we exist.

I work alongside my clients, as they bravely take the risks involved in introspection and change. From personal experience, I know how hard this can be, AND, not changing is even more painful. I want to guide you as you explore and overcome the obstacles disrupting your functioning or behavior so that you can move forward with living; I want to support you as you learn how to manage feelings of stress, trauma, sadness, confusion, worry & anger. I see you as a complex person living a complicated life, experiencing emotional upheavals that prevent you from feeling well & at ease and instead leaving you overwhelmed and distraught.

The way we experience life in and outside of our bodies is profoundly informative. I operate from the view that individuals have an innate wisdom and collection of strengths that guide their ability to heal and grow. Trauma and dislocation from the genuine self, whether experienced individually or systemically, influences how we live, how we love, and how we interpret the world. Painful experience can also connect us with our humanity and be deeply transformative: it can be the source of our healing, growth and resilience.

Relationships shape our lives, and the quality of our lives depends on the quality of our relationships. Our deepest healing comes from understanding our relationships with ourselves and others. In doing so, we can transform painful connections into compassionate ones and create meaningful, enriching relationships. I am a relationally based therapist grounded in somatic work, mindfulness, and parts work. I hold a compassionate and curious space as you explore vulnerable truths, their origins, and what you need.

Many of us have learned to disconnect from parts of ourselves. This can show up in negative self talk, unsatisfying relationships, overwhelmed nervous systems, chronic pain or illness, or reactions that feel out of control or not in alignment for us. Sometimes this comes from patterns in our families, trauma, or oppression. I welcome anyone who is seeking to reconnect with themselves and others.

Throughout our lives, there are a number of experiences that lead us to feeling alienated and disconnected from our bodies, our relationships to others, and our sense of worth. I hope to support you in returning home to yourself in all of your complexities. I believe in leaning into discomfort to uncover the wisdom behind strategies used to cope. It is through this learning that you can gain the tools to shift in ways that bring you to a place of greater abundance, connection, and radical self-love.

Wanting to be loved and accepted doesn’t make you needy, or extra, or selfish, or weak. It makes you human. In our work together my focus is building a relationship where you feel comfortable exploring what you think and feel, want and need. My style as a therapist is warm, relaxed, and conversational. I use playfulness, curiosity, creativity, and laughter to support the therapy process and I prioritize taking time to get to know you and what's important to you.

Female Therapists
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
