Accepting new clients! Do you feel on edge all the time? Is focusing on one task nearly impossible due to all the worries and negative thoughts that won’t leave you alone? Maybe “just get through today” is stuck on repeat in your head. Maybe you feel lost and confused about who you are and what you’re doing with your life. These experiences can feel hopeless. Together, we will navigate the circumstances and contexts that drain us, fill us with anxiety and dread, and strip us of our health and well-being. We will explore ways to feel liberated and more expansive without the weight of what you cannot control weighing you down.

Do you feel like you're maintaining or surviving, rather than thriving? Maybe you're not sure what the next step is, but you know you want to feel less stress, anxiety, and fear and more peace, joy, and confidence. I believe that many distressing feelings are often responses to a world that tries to tell us who we are and who we should be, through inherited belief systems, culture, relationships, experiences of trauma, and systems of oppression. I love working w/ people to reveal what those stories are, the meanings you've held in them, and how to discover and make space for the self inside you that felt small, boxed in, or stuck.

We all encounter situations that feel overwhelming and test our coping abilities. I see therapy as a collaborative process that will help you navigate the challenges and transitions that life presents. I offer a safe, supportive environment to talk about issues that can be difficult to discuss elsewhere. Together we will explore how certain thoughts, behavior patterns, and past experiences might be contributing to your difficulties. We will identify your strengths and figure out effective coping strategies to create positive changes in your life. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples.

All around us the world has been shifting. Maybe at one point it all made sense: your feelings, sensations, and reactions (even the dark and heightened ones) felt known and even comforting. But now you are looking for a new way to be and a different understanding – a path forward and a way to endure your struggle. If you are someone who believes that each of us know our own wounds, that we possess a strong inner wisdom, and that we have the ability to access the latent potential to grow and change – or, you want to believe – you will find a good fit with me and my therapeutic offerings.

My aim is to help folks get to the bottom of their concerns, and to support them in making meaningful changes in their lives. Sometimes we have the sense that something is not quite right, even if we cannot pinpoint what exactly it is. Other times we may want to get out of our heads and feel more present. Whatever your concern, I am here to support you in discerning what it is that’s in the way from allowing you to live the life you want to live. Together, you and I will work to identify and unpack your lived experiences and the values that inform where it is you want to go.

I provide psychotherapy to individuals and families to promote growth and empowerment through supportive listening, mindfulness, and examination of past experiences, allowing clients to cultivate insight and bring about lasting change. I use a collaborative and dynamic approach that incorporates multiple theoretical approaches and techniques to meet both individual and family needs and preferences. I believe that insight alone does not bring about change; rather, we must do something different to become something different. I offer compassion, humor, honesty, and straightforward feedback while I empower individuals and families to explore their own goals and work toward growth and healing.

As human beings, we frequently subject ourselves to harsh self-judgment. While self-criticism has its merits on occasion, it often engenders emotional turmoil. Research into self-compassion has unveiled its extraordinary ability to diminish anxiety, depression, and stress while elevating motivation, confidence, and overall performance. Yet, the practical application of self-compassion is often more challenging than mere words suggest.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
