I work with you to uncover underlying self destructive belief/ behavior patterns, then move into more life-enhancing patterns. My approach is culturally aware, founded in understanding the relationships systems within which you live and work, and guided by my intuitive knowledge of change and growth acquired during over 20 years of experience. My advanced training in EMDR eases your movement through grief, loss or trauma. Accountability and "keeping an eye on the goal" is an important part of our work together. I also specialize in LGBTQ concerns as well as the specific pain of the adult adoptee.

Many people today are struggling with self-criticism, unhealthy patterns in their relationships, and a weight of emotional pain that feels unshakeable. I'm a firm believer that people who come to see me for support are stuck, not sick. I consider myself a guide walking along side you in your journey and my role is to help you compassionately understand how your experiences have shaped you into who you are today while also finding tangible ways to navigate current obstacles. I support my clients in reclaiming love for themselves by authentically recognizing that the relationship with one's self is the foundation for our wellbeing.

We’re all doing the best we can. Our life experiences teach us how to see the world, and we develop tools to get us through certain situations. Those tools work great… until they don’t. We tend to struggle when our experiences change but our tools stay the same. My goal is to help you figure out what’s working and what’s not. Sometimes we have to review and update how we see the world. Sometimes we need to upgrade our tools and practice new skills. Whether you’re striving toward a dream or surviving a storm, therapy gives us a chance to tap into strengths and repair pukas for this stage of your journey.

Sometimes the family and/or relationship process breaks down and people feel stuck. Relationships require us to be close in some ways and apart in other ways. This helps people be authentic with themselves and trusting of each other. With this trust and authenticity, people develop a new process for solving problems.

I believe that individuals possess the power to change, and that it is my role to help you become aware of how to understand and utilize that power. This philosophy of empowerment accepts the individual as the driving force in change. Further, this approach brings about effective long-term results, when individuals discover how to utilize their own inner strengths and gifts rather than having to rely on others for solutions to life's challenging circumstances. I believe empowerment is a gift for life. I look forward to helping clients reach their goals.

Welcome! My name is Christine and connecting with people has been a passion of mine since as early as I can remember. I grew up moving frequently (living on three different continents before I was 18) and traveling the world which perpetuated my curiosity and desire to understand the diversity and complexity of the human experience. I believe all behavior makes sense given context and my therapy process is an eclectic approach designed to guide you toward compassionately discovering what is driving your unhelpful behaviors.

I AM accepting new telehealth clients. Email or text is the best way to reach me. A global pandemic has changed the way we operate overnight. Most people are finding adjusting to feelings of powerlessness, and ambivalence has taken a toll on their overall well-being, and family. Taking the first steps towards change for ourselves, and our family takes a lot of courage. I am glad you are reading this, and hope you hold how important taking care of your brain, body, and social emotional needs is. Therapy can provide a space that allows you to show up as you are and grow.

Substance Use Therapists

How do substance and drug recovery or rehabilitation programs work?

In inpatient programs, individuals live in a facility with other clients in recovery; in outpatient programs, individuals reside at home. These facilities are staffed with healthcare professionals including physicians, nurses, psychologists, counselors, and psychotherapists. Staff often also includes people who have recovered themselves, serving as mentors and guides. These programs may use abstinence, harm reduction, detoxification, psychotherapy, and other methods.

How do 12-step programs combined with psychotherapy work?

Members of 12-step programs help each other reach abstinence and work to maintain it. These programs promote complete change in the individual’s emotional, mental, physical, and even spiritual perspectives. Some programs require that new members attend 90 meetings in 90 days. Many people do attend these programs in conjunction with their work in psychotherapy; the combination of therapy along with 12-step can be extremely effective.

How does harm reduction combined with psychotherapy work?

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, harm reduction prevents death, injury, disease, overdose, and substance misuse. People who choose harm reduction for substance use reduce the amount of drugs they consume. It is not abstinence-based like a 12-step program, but combining harm reduction with psychotherapy proves to be effective for many people.

Are there specific medications for substance and drug use?

There are medications approved to treat substance use disorder—such as buprenorphine, methadone, naltrexone, and acamprosate. These medications do help people cope with substance use as well as avoid the problem of relapse. Naltrexone can help reduce cravings, methadone is an opioid medication used to treat severe pain, and acamprosate may help ease symptoms like poor sleep and anxious feelings.
