I’m grateful you are here. I work primarily with adults struggling with complex trauma, breaking generational cycles, and relationship issues such as divorce, domestic violence, family of origin issues, and estrangement. These issues may be causing you to feel overwhelmed with depression, anxiety, and shame with little understanding of how you got here. Our work together will be in a compassionate, anti-oppression centered space in the hopes to lead to more self connection and self compassion.

It is difficult to deal with strong feelings of anger, guilt sadness, grief, fear, or worry on your own. At the same time, it can be extremely difficult to let others around you know when you need help. You may have even been told that you just need to "tough it out", and "deal with it" all on your own. I'm here to say that you don't have to. Managing difficult emotions is easier said than done when going through stressful situations such as losing a loved one, ending a relationship, or dealing with financial stress. I am here if you are ready to make positive changes in your life, and are tired of doing it alone.

I am passionate about providing a safe and nonjudgmental space for people who are working to heal, move forward, and take control of their lives. Together I would like to cultivate a foundation to build from - understanding the what and why of symptoms, cultivating skills to manage and regulate, using somatic work to help connect the mind back to the body, and dislodging rules or belief systems that are no longer serving or sustainable.

Hello! So, you know those therapists who are calming, soothing, and usually have one of those freaking awesome rock formations with streaming water behind them? Yeah, well... I'm not one of those therapists! First off, I just used the word "freaking" in my intro, and that's when I'm trying to be my most professional self! Secondly, and more importantly, I'm just not into all the head bobbing and "tell me more." I'm more of a "Talk to me... what's going on?" kind of therapist. I will listen, and never judge you. I will laugh (and sometimes cry) with you, and I will use every therapeutic tool at my disposal to help you!

Therapy is a brave undertaking, and many people seek out therapy at a time in their life when they feel particularly vulnerable, confused, and stuck. Together we will explore areas of your life where patterns seem to repeat themselves, and think about new ways of understanding your experiences. I am a psychotherapist that serves children, teens and adults at my practice in Tukwila. I primarily provide individual psychotherapy to all ages, and supportive parenting sessions. I am also able to work with infants and toddlers and their caregivers together with a focus on the attachment relationship.

During the therapeutic process, I challenge clients with the statement that I am "Daring You to Be YOU!" This challenge of personal acceptance is designed to help individuals to evaluate their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors to determine what is hindering them from achieving their goals. As clients go through the therapeutic process, they learn to develop the intimacy (in-to-me-I-see) needed to develop the strength to face life's challenges. The ideal client wants therapeutic support in acknowledging personal triggers, defining happiness, developing healthy relationships, and identifying areas for personal development.

We all encounter loss throughout our lives, but some losses can leave us overwhelmed and on the edge of despair. Loss is hard, even when if it isn't from a death. Whether your grief is fresh, from a recent death or life transition, or you’ve carried it for many years, you don’t have to face it alone. I specialize in grief, trauma, depression and anxiety. A primary goal of our work together will be restoration - to restore hope and reconnect you to your heart. Helping you move through your pain, rather than being weighed down by it, so you can live more authentically.

Hello, we are accepting new patients! Whether you're feeling down or anxious, struggling with hurtful and dysfunctional familial dynamics, having difficulty achieving a healthy work-life balance and/or enduring or wanting to heal from past or current traumas, you have found an ally. Developmental, relational and attachment trauma disconnects us from ourselves, our loved ones and even our spirituality. These types of traumas can leave us feeling isolated, unfulfilled and despondent. We all deserve to feel at peace - and that begins by learning how to heal.

We’re all doing the best we can. Our life experiences teach us how to see the world, and we develop tools to get us through certain situations. Those tools work great… until they don’t. We tend to struggle when our experiences change but our tools stay the same. My goal is to help you figure out what’s working and what’s not. Sometimes we have to review and update how we see the world. Sometimes we need to upgrade our tools and practice new skills. Whether you’re striving toward a dream or surviving a storm, therapy gives us a chance to tap into strengths and repair pukas for this stage of your journey.

Life does not discriminate when it comes to stress, trauma, and pain. We should not bear life's burdens alone, as we all need to be heard, understood, and appreciated. Whether this is your first time seeking counseling or simply looking for a change, know you are doing the right thing for yourself. I love to work with those in need of connection, nurture, and growth. I do so through a style that is direct, yet compassionate, firm, yet empathetic, practical, yet supportive. As your therapist, I work alongside you to provide individualized support based on your presenting problems, needs, and therapeutic goals.

Psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is a treatment that addresses suffering, creating possibilities for change by unsettling the past and opening up the future. Our confidential relationship allows for exploration of your mind, memories, experiences, associations, dreams, fantasies, relationships and feelings. During sessions you are expected to say whatever comes to mind without censoring yourself and I will listen carefully and closely offering questions, comments, connections, and at times your own words back to you so we can hear them in new ways.

Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?

Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.

What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?

Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.

What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?

DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.

What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?

The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
