I've worked with parents and their infants/toddlers to support the parent-child bond, increase resources, and provide psychoeducation.
I work with young children, teens, and parents who are struggling with intense feelings and behaviors and seeking specialized, effective, and holistic therapy to learn practical skills and insight in order to enjoy a happier, healthier life. I help children & adolescents overcome anxiety, ADHD, developmental delays, and sensory issues. I also help parents learn new ways to support their child/adolescent that are specific to the needs of their child. I am very familiar with 504/IEP's and have experience advocating as well as helping create plans that increase school success.

One of the things I’ve come to value the most in life is honest conversation. It’s freeing to share about things we’re struggling with, and to be truly heard without judgment. In every session, I aim to give this opportunity to my clients. I use a number of therapeutic approaches, all of which consider the whole person and recognize the impact of their closest relationships.

Something happens when we sit across from someone who really sees us, hears us, and accepts us unconditionally. The relationship has the power to lift us up, shift our perspective, and bring us comfort and clarity. I'd be honored to sit across from you with the warmth, humor, compassion and skill that will support the healing and growth you are seeking. You should know that I believe in you, I will challenge you, and we will process everything together until you realize, heal, and remember the strength you have to live the life you want for yourself.

If you’re tired of recycling the same argument, walking on eggshells with each other or don’t know how to repair your relationship, I can help you get to the root of your disconnection. I help distressed, disconnected couples remember what it's like to be sexy best friends instead of roommates. Together, we will identify your entrenched ways of arguing so that both of you can break these patterns by learning how to clearly state how you’re feeling to your partner and in turn, listen deeply. I'll help you pay close attention to each other, so that you both feel a little more held each time we meet.

I focus on helping my clients understand and heal attachment issues, processing of trauma, resolving parenting difficulties, and work/life conflicts. My goal is to give my clients a place to feel safe to discuss the stresses and troubles they may be experiencing. Although I counsel people of all ages, I particularly enjoy seeing children under the age of 18. The transition to parenthood is really hard, isn’t it? Maybe the journey to becoming a parent has been long and challenging. Maybe your vision for what having a newborn would be like has been abruptly altered by the reality of it all. Maybe your dreams feel like they’re falling apart as you grieve a pregnancy loss or grieve who you used to be in the “before times”. This season of life is such a uniquely transformative period that it can throw even the most well-prepared people into a state of emotional and mental chaos they never saw coming.

Parenting is a special interest of mine including parenting oneself as an adult.
"Compassionate towards yourself, you reconcile all beings in the world." These words of wisdom hold truth for me. I believe all of life is about relationships--to ideas and circumstances, as well as people--and I think that one of the most important relationships is the one we have with our self. Change is possible when we see things as they are. I work in collaboration with people as they work toward their goals. I see individuals, couples and families (especially teens and parents) who recognize the need for change in their lives.

I find these practices relevant to all mental health challenges and interpersonal dynamics ranging from self-identity to parenting.
"You do not have to be good You do not have to walk on your knees for a hundred miles repenting you only have to let the soft animal of your body love what it loves..." -Mary Oliver. Oliver suggests that liberation is always-already present. How do we contact this natural brilliance? How do we walk that liminal space between will and surrender, acceptance and change? Being incarnated in a human body means facing ordeals but how much we suffer becomes a choice. We refine our ability to choose through deep engagement with various inner practices and orientations.

I am also the author of several books on parenting, relationships and depression.
I'm a solution-focused, results-oriented counselor with a passion for helping people in the most efficient yet comprehensive manner possible. My clients and I identify opportunities for growth in all three aspects of mental health: behaviors, thoughts and emotions. I then suggest evidence-based treatment methods to match our specified goals. This often includes lifestyle change, healthy habit formation and cognitive therapy. Most often, I work with clients' present-day experiences, with less focus on the past. Many of my clients tell me that traditional talk therapy has not worked for them, and they want to try something different.

Adjusting to new roles—like becoming a parent, navigating a new career, exploring your gender identity, or dealing with culture shock—can be daunting and impostor syndrome can make you question if you belong.
If you're feeling anxious and finding it hard to cope, you are not alone. As a queer Latina immigrant and a mom, I've been through my fair share of adapting to new roles in life. I can help you discover your strengths and see things from a different angle. Together, we'll figure out how your environment is affecting you and what changes you have the power to make. My work involves body and sex positivity, overcoming systemic and cultural barriers, toxic masculinity, and generational trauma.

It often starts with the unexpected. Unexpected news, unanticipated turns, unforeseen circumstances, and sometimes the unimaginable. It is at these times we can often feel powerless, afraid, confused, and uncertain. Change for some can be unwelcomed and for other’s change doesn’t seem to come soon enough. We cannot always choose what we go through, but we can choose how we go through it. Many seek therapy due to hard-fought battles with a variety of life issues, such as depression, trauma, anxiety, relationship problems, parenting challenges, and experiences from the past that keep them from moving forward.

I also offer parent training.
I have a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and have been working with children, families and individual adults for 25+ years. What I have learned in that time is that we all have rough patches in life. I have also learned that counseling can help, but it is the match between client and counselor that makes all the difference. Clients that match best with me are reflective and have a good sense of humor. It also helps if they have some quirky parts to their personality. I have found these traits help people get through the rough parts of life. Also, I think those traits are the best match for me because I have them too.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
