My style results from the influences of several schools of thought, including psychodynamic, interpersonal, and existential theories; cognitive-behavioral approaches to change; and Eastern psychology.
Those I work with describe me as receptive and kind, yet extremely engaged and at times even challenging. I am not a passive listener; my therapy work takes the form of an active, two-way dialogue. While my style is warm, informal, and truly nonjudgmental, I believe it is often essential for our default positions to be questioned within a safe context. Good therapy provides the help of someone trained to see and artfully communicate what we sometimes cannot see ourselves. The therapeutic relationship must be compassionate, open-hearted, and enjoyable, yet honest, even when such honesty is challenging.

Existential Therapy essentially asks “what makes a meaningful life,” and attempts to align our actions with our values, making sure we are living the way we hope and aspire to live in the long term.
** NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS ** Hi and welcome - I'm glad you're taking this step in finding a therapist - I hope I can help. My goal is to work with you to identify your main areas of concern/stress and develop a realistic strategy to reach your goals. I am a big fan of “doing what works” which, of course, means a different plan for each person. I work hard to adjust my own working style and in employing different strategies to meet your needs - to find the thing that works for you.

My approach to psychotherapy is eclectic and primarily informed by existential psychology, Jungian psychology, and trauma-informed approaches.
I am passionate about working with Asian Americans and the Chinese population. I have a lot of experience in helping international students and employees navigate life transitions and challenges. My clinical areas of specialty include personal growth and development, anxiety and depression, interpersonal problems, grief and loss issues, trauma, and stress-related problems. I believe the difficulties serve a purpose: to provide us the chance to reveal authenticity and completeness in our life. Life seems to be falling apart when you focus on the broken pieces. I will help you see how they will come together to form the whole.

I've lived in the PNW for 25 years via Miami and originally, from New York City. I received a BFA from the Rochester Institute of Technology and worked as a professional photographer. In Seattle, I worked for Microsoft and lead self-actualization seminars before earning a Masters in Existential Psychology from Seattle University, I practice Existential Integrative therapy and also study mindfulness and eastern philosophy. I'm interested in the ways these converge, how people construct meaning and how it relates to their as-lived experience; and how clients use this capacity to generate self-awareness and walk a new pathway forward.

Individuals: For those who are having an existential crisis, identity crisis, or are looking for their voice/purpose, I know I can be a facilitator for your journey.
Multicultural, feminist, expat, bilingual, and lived many lives, is how I would describe myself. Before counseling, I have been an activist, a documentary filmmaker, and worked sales and marketing in an international tech company. I know what it is like to be caught between two large cultures as an Asian-American male. Because of such, I have had to formulate an identity somewhere in the middle, not being one or the other, and as an expat abroad I have had to reconcile what it means to be a foreigner. I decided to pursue being a counselor because I want to help people who are lost or struggling on their journey as I once was.

I employ an integrative approach grounded in attachment-based, relational-psychodynamic, and existential perspectives.
Are you feeling disconnected from yourself or your life’s purpose? Are stress and uncertainty making it tough to envision what you truly desire? I’ll work with you to better understand yourself, leverage strengths, and align with your most meaningful goals. I’m particularly attuned to working with creative, high-intensity, and out-of-the-box thinkers. Constellations of these traits often include aspects of ADHD, giftedness, high sensitivity, and other forms of neurodivergence. I also specialize in issues that emerge at midlife, a unique time in which new stressors and shifting priorities can manifest in unexpected ways.

Existential Therapists
How does existential therapy work?
Existential therapy focuses on a patient’s inner experiences. The therapist tries to help the individual comprehend and alleviate symptoms by exploring their interior life. By confronting negative disquiet and emotions, the individual will hopefully become more open to finding meaning and purpose. This therapy can be administered to individuals or groups.
Is existential therapy evidence-based?
Existential therapy is an evidence-based practice. Research has determined that existential therapy can lead to significant improvement in the mental health of patients, and for some people it can be just as effective as cognitive behavioral therapy. The benefits of existential therapy are enduring, even long after treatment has ended.
How long does existential therapy last?
The goal of existential therapy is to understand a person’s internal experiences, which may sound like a lengthy process, but it does not have to be so in-depth. However, sessions are not short-term, and therapy can continue for months or up to a year. And because patients learn the theory behind existential therapy during treatment, they can also practice its tenets throughout life after therapy sessions have been completed.
Is existential therapy effective?
According to research, many patients find success with existential therapy. Researchers note that the therapy is particularly useful in improving feelings of isolation, feelings of purposelessness, as well as conditions such as anxiety and depression. Improvements in problem areas can persist even after the end of existential therapy, as individuals can continue working on themselves by using the tools they’ve developed during treatment.
