If you expect the world to conform to you, you may also expect a lifetime of bitter resentment. No problem is an impairment until you allow yourself to take up the cry of "I Cannot, I Cannot, I Cannot." Some therapists will "support" you in this cry and hold your hand as you walk into hell. Let's turn your heart towards "I Can, I Will, I Am."

My clients are facing scary and exciting life changes. They’re preparing for marriage, a new baby, or just moving out on their own. Some have experienced difficulty getting pregnant or even lost a pregnancy. Parents are wondering how to raise their children according to their own values rather than someone elses, or struggling with postpartum anxiety and depression. Others are affected by lies or manipulation at the hands of someone they trusted. If you want to strengthen your foundation such as your relationship, family, faith, and home in the face of life challenges, I’m your therapist.

In my years of working with people—whether due to stress, loss, relationship or workplace conflict, managing depression and anxiety—the common denominator has always been people’s desire to improve themselves and the important relationships that support and sustain them. For some, it’s recognizing the need to build a stronger support system. It’s been a privilege to work with clients as they explore the important changes within their power to make.

As we travel our journey, there are times that we need extra help and support. Especially, to move through the rough and uncomfortable times. In therapy, I believe it is important to meet people at what stage they are in while making that journey. This allows us to build the right tool box to equip them for success. I have over 20 years of experience working with adults, teenagers, and adolescents. My experience has been around helping individuals with anxiety, depression, parenting, behavior management, trauma, and other life stressors.

As we encounter life's various problems, we occasionally find that professional help might be useful. I work with people who are looking for that additional professional assistance. Some of the most common reasons people come to work with me are depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and anger management, among several others. I also work with couples. For the first 15 years of my career I also worked training doctoral students on how to be therapists while maintaining a private practice on the side. This has given me invaluable insight into the therapy work I do now in my full-time private practice.

There are seasons for renewal, change and healing. Seeking therapy is a brave and vulnerable step. My specialty is counseling children, teens, and adults who are strong, but feel weighed down by trauma, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, and self worth. Perhaps you are searching because something feels broken in your life: relationships are disconnected, or an event haunts you from the past, or your emotions are overwhelming. Perhaps you are plagued by hidden grief or rejection, and you feel restless or wounded as a result. You are not alone, and you don't have to stay stuck.

Strength-Based Therapists

How does strength-based therapy work?

During strength-based therapy sessions, the therapist will ask about an individual’s experiences of stress, pain, or trauma with the goal of orienting the client to view themselves as a survivor rather than a victim, and focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. In framing a client’s personal narrative along these lines, the therapist and client work together to identify existing skills that can be harnessed.

Is strength-based therapy evidence-based?

Strength-based therapy is an evidence-based treatment that has been studied extensively and shown to be effective across domains. The treatment has been found to be particularly effective in helping individuals who are experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and other mental health concerns. Strength-based therapy has been used by therapists to help clients for more than 60 years.

How long does strength-based therapy last?

There’s no precise timeline for strength-based therapy. The duration of treatment depends on the individual’s specific needs and goals and the severity of their concerns. Some individuals may find they achieve their therapeutic goals quickly, while others might benefit from ongoing support and guidance in order to continue progressing.

How effective is strength-based therapy?

Clinical research and decades of practice have shown strength-based therapy to be an effective treatment to improve mental health and well-being for many conditions. The treatment can engender a sense of connection and collaboration between the therapist and the individual, fostering a positive therapeutic relationship. For individuals with narcissistic tendencies, strength-based therapy may be less effective, as the focus on the individual’s strengths may undermine the work needed to honestly assess the challenges the individual faces.
