I utilize play therapy with young children who do not yet have the ability to express their feelings in words, but naturally do so through play.
I specialize in therapy for children and adolescents who are struggling with emotional and behavioral difficulties at home or school. I offer a warm, accepting environment for children to learn about and express themselves, play, grow, and heal. Our work focuses on competencies and solutions rather than limitations and problems. Through a holistic perspective we work on presenting problems and overall social and emotional development to promote growth and healthy transitions to adulthood. I work collaboratively with parents/caregivers, teachers and school counselors to ensure all individuals in the child's life have the opportunity to address their concerns.

Children often ask for help in ways that frustrate parents most.
***Currently Full and unable to take new clients***The teenage years can be some of the most challenging for both teens and their parents alike. They often feel misunderstood and alone while parents may feel helpless and disconnected from their teenager. I am here to help. Finding the "right fit" therapist for a teen is tough. You want your teen to be able to open up and feel comfortable. Well, hopefully you don't need to go much farther. I speak grouchy, anxious, and depressed teen fluently. I am known for just "getting it" in the teen world and teens truly enjoy coming to see me and doing the hard-work that counseling requires.

Does your child display challenging behaviors, anxiety, or sadness? Many children face difficulties due to traumatic experiences, divorce and family changes, their natural temperament, or disorders such as ADHD, Generalized Anxiety, Mood Disorders, or Autism.
I work with children ages 3-12 by encouraging them to learn, grow, and express themselves through play. Child Centered Play Therapy is a research based counseling approach which allows children to communicate through play to ultimately experience emotional and behavioral growth and well being. I can also provide Child Parent Relationship Therapy. I have been a counselor for children and their families for 25 years in both clinic and school settings. Please visit my website www.growingplacecounseling.com for more information.

I believe the power to change, grow, and overcome obstacles lies within each one of us. Sometimes, for many different reasons, we need additional support to identify, and build on the strengths we have within us to accomplish what we want. I have 16 years of experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to support clients as they accomplish their goals and overcome life stressors, depression, anxiety, grief and trauma.

Life didn't come with a manual and sometimes we find ourselves off course or stuck, unable to move forward. A sensitive and caring approach to counseling may help you discover the thoughts and beliefs that hold you back, as we utilize a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy. I say we, because cognitive behavioral therapy is a collaborative process between equals, that challenges and changes the thoughts that work to maintain depression and anxiety. My goal is to help guide you through the process of therapy, allowing you to truly heal, as you gain access to and build upon your inner resources.
