Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment (ACT), Trauma Focused, and other mindfulness approaches, I aim to assist adolescent and adult individuals, couples, and families with a variety of concerns including anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and stress.
Years ago, I began to explore how I resonated with the world around me. While working as a paraeducator, I realized the only real joy that came from the job was having real conversations with students. Unfortunately, due to the limitations of my position, conversations of that nature were simply not allowed. I decided to pursue a career that enabled me to help others navigate the terra incognita: the unknown territory of this human existence.

A death in the family, minor car accident, being bullied, death of a pet, Covid 19! "Put it behind you" just doesn't work.
This is a no shame, no blame zone where you will be heard. If you ask yourself "what's wrong with me" or hear it from others, it's the wrong question. The right question is "what has happened to you?" Trauma and grief reactions are normal human responses, not pathological diagnoses. But no one is born knowing how to deal with them- not you, not your best friend. Asking for help is the first step to healing. I'm a seasoned Grief Therapist, Certified Trauma Professional and EFT (Tapping) Expert who will collaborate with you to help you clear away the chaos to a more peaceful, productive life. Good therapy works. Give a call now.

I am a psychotherapist who works with grief, life transitions, and chronic pain. With my background as a medical social worker in both hospice and home health, I have seen how my clients’ experiences were often isolating and mentally draining. The losses that come with any life changes, even “good” ones, are not always obvious. In order to help my clients create a path forward, I take a constructivist approach and pull from a variety of modalities, including ACT, narrative therapy and attachment-based therapy. If you think I would be a good fit for you or have any questions, please feel free to reach out for a consultation.

I specialized in couples work, trauma, grief and loss, and men’s issues.
Our life is a journey. The journey can present us with challenges we are unsure of how to handle. If you have ever been caught in a rainstorm you’ll know you just want to have a safe place to wait it out. Or you could want a safe way to get through the storm faster. Sometimes we just wish we had someone there to be in the storm with us so we knew we weren’t alone. You are not alone. We can experience that storm together. Therapy, just like life is a collaborative process. Together we can address the challenges you face.

You've lost yourself. There was a time when you knew yourself well and felt strong in who you are, but life, relationships, uncertainty, and doubt have crept in and now you're not so sure of yourself anymore. You feel like you're always trying to please others, or making excuses for not being what you think you should be, and you feel like a fraud. Like there are different parts of you showing up for different people, and it's hard to be authentically you. And it's exhausting! Hi, I'm Katie! I love helping women overcome anxiety, depression, grief, heal from trauma, create fulfilling relationships, & live the life you want to live.

Life happens; the effects of loss vary; and the impacts of stress/trauma are more ‘normal’ than most people realize. You are not alone; your struggles are real; and your mental wellness is and should be treated with as much vigor as your need for food and shelter. It is natural for our bodies to want to heal themselves; and our human strength and natural behavior is to adapt and evolve. We develop negative coping skills as we adapt to stress/trauma, grief/loss, major life changes/transitions, chronic illness/pain, identity struggles, and relationship conflicts.

Suffering the impacts of trauma, being entangled in a web of codependency, or sinking into stagnating depression, can cause marked distress and dysfunction in our daily lives. Sometimes our own attempts at self-medicating can further complicate matters. If we have experienced a significant loss, it may be hard to even imagine an end to the pain and it may be rather difficult to trust in any process of change. Fear and shame can often prevent us from reaching out, convincing us this is an unyielding fate.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
