As someone who has worked helping others in various capacities for over 25 years, I bring a great deal of experience to my work as a mental health counselor. In this time I have obtained great insight into the struggles inherent to both individuals and families. In my work as a counselor I utilize these skills and insight to help people of all ages, identities, and walks of life. My approach to counseling is not confined to one specific framework but incorporates a variety of modalities tailored to each client's unique needs. I am humanistic in style and often utilize mindfulness based strategies for increased insight and awareness.

I approach my work using a client-centered, strengths-based model. I view every individual/family/couple as unique, utilizing methods and techniques best-suited for each situation. My experience includes many areas, all pertaining to individuals, couples and families. I am passionate in working with women, teens, couples and the LGBTQ community. I was trained in Family Systems Therapy; I approach therapy work holistically, focusing on the individual and extending beyond, to the interactions between family members and significant others. I work with clients to help them recognize how extended family, culture, and society may impact them as individuals.

My belief is that we are all human trying to learn and grow in an ever changing environment. Change for some can be difficult to cope with and result in maladaptive coping skills and other mental health concerns when emotions overwhelm us. I believe that the therapy relationship should always be collaborative and I approach every individual differently to meet their needs with where they are in life. In the therapy process we will assess your different environments and relationships to help understand your current barriers you are seeking help with.

Ever think: "How did I end up here?" or "I never imagined {life event} would happen to me!" You are not alone! We can all relate to these sentiments. Most people do not end up in therapy because circumstances are unicorns and rainbows. Are you struggling with loss, or making meaning out of events that have left you feeling uncertain, shaken, in agony? Do you feel like you are starring in a scene from the film Ground Hog Day, where life is a series of frustrating, repeating events? You can make a successful transition to break this cycle, whatever that personal change is. You will get a sense of control back. A little Zen. Some hope.

I AM accepting new telehealth clients. Email or text is the best way to reach me. A global pandemic has changed the way we operate overnight. Most people are finding adjusting to feelings of powerlessness, and ambivalence has taken a toll on their overall well-being, and family. Taking the first steps towards change for ourselves, and our family takes a lot of courage. I am glad you are reading this, and hope you hold how important taking care of your brain, body, and social emotional needs is. Therapy can provide a space that allows you to show up as you are and grow.

I believe in tailoring the therapy to meet each client's individual. I primarily use psychodynamic therapy which helps the client gain self-insight but also use a variety of therapeutic techniques including cognitive and behavioral methods. Being able to stand back from one's self and gain perspective about one's personality, choices and actions are important in helping an individual work through issues. I help the client explore what issues from the past or present may be contributing to depression or anxiety.

Fastest way to our wait list is the request for service on our website. Anxiety is awful. Most people just do not understand how difficult it is to live with chronic worry, panic attacks, or obsessive thoughts and unwanted behavior. Gladly, most people will never have to know how horrible it is to have nagging obsessive thoughts, or fear panicking in public places. The variety of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapies (CBT) like Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP) and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) are quite effective in increasing distress tolerance, reducing anxiety, and eliminating the dysfunctional behaviors that accompany it.

Guided by my client’s needs and issues, I use a variety of theoretical orientations to work WITH each individual. My primary approach to therapy is Person-Centered, meaning emphasis is placed on creating a safe environment where clients are supported as active participants in exploring their experience and developing personalized goals. After the initial evaluation and developing a collaborative relationship, patients are supported in developing skills that allow them to move forward in confidence, not that all problems are solved but, in understanding they have what they need to manage their unique struggle when it shows up.

I use Compassion, Mindfulness, and Liberation theories to guide my work with Clients.
I work with teens and adults who would like to address the ways mental health, stress, grief, and/or the many systems we all much navigate can impede on our optimal thriving. We explore ways to be resilient in the face of hardship and turmoil. I can support Folx with identifying if they have mental health symptoms that can be alleviated with treatment. For some, I am a supportive and compassionate sounding board in this increasingly disconnected world. I truly believe that healing and hope are possible for us all, the path forward can be daunting and can only be made better with good support.

I incorporate a blend of therapeutic modalities which include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; Person Centered Therapy; Psychotherapy; Relational Psychotherapy; Mindfulness/Somatic Psychology; and Trauma Informed Approach.
I am a compassionate person that truly believes that each individual in this world deserves authentic happiness and inner peace. We all have our own journey of growth, and I feel like I have a unique opportunity to create a safe space to support others in healing from experiences that have challenged their sense of self. Each individual is in charge of his/her/their own growth, and I view therapy as a partnership between myself and my clients throughout each stage of change. Therapy is a process that enables a person to discover self-awareness, to harness self-expression, and explore the capacity to have and hold stronger feelings.

I incorporate mindfulness, meditation, and self compassion teachings.
Whether you are dealing with stressors related to past trauma or current life challenges, you don't have to work through the emotional struggles alone. As we face complex challenges unique to the multiple roles that we hold in your life, it's easy to get lost in everyday responsibilities, ignoring the potential warning signs of depression and anxiety. If you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, angry, restless, racing thoughts, exhausted, stressed, living in survival mode; give yourself permission to heal! How you think+how you feel+how you act, creates your life. Take a mindful approach to an awake and poised you.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS), mindfulness techniques, attachment repair, and within the growing psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP) movement for integration and support.
I focus on positive growth and change to help you live your best life. I understand that some people are looking to enhance their quality of life, become happier, or otherwise grow and change in new directions. Others may struggle with difficulties, either at home, at work, or with friends and family. I'm not interested in treating people as broken or sick just because they are struggling or have questions. I have experience with tech workers, military, neurodivergent people and I am LGBTQIA+ and poly informed. I identify as both neurodivergent and poly in my own life.

Parts work touches on the cognitive and the somatic, but I also integrate stabilization tools from CBT, DBT, and mindfulness-based approaches.
Finding the right therapist can be challenging, especially when you're dealing with the shadows of trauma, anxiety, and depression. I blend together experiential and solution-focused approaches to offer you a supportive space where we have genuine conversations to uncover the needs that are wanting to be met in your life.

We can do this through a combination of therapy techniques: Mindfulness, Somatic Experiencing, Craniosacral Therapy, and Brainspotting.
I work with individuals and couples who are struggling with relational and individual emotional difficulties stemming from childhood neglect and/or abuse. I will show you how our brain and nervous system works to release long-held dysfunctional patterns of anxiety and depression. You will learn skills for Mindfulness and sensation awareness in order to release of the shock, grief, abandonment and shame that are often the root cause of depressive and hyperactive nervous systems.

Compassion, mindfulness, and healthy boundaries lead to successful life transitions.
We all experience anxiety, fear, depression or suffering - especially when faced with life transitions. Teens transitioning to adulthood, families transitioning through marriage/parenthood/divorce, and individuals transitioning through career changes are all common, but often stressful experiences. These transitions also have the potential to bring joy, reflection and peace. However, we all need help sometimes to find the joy in our lives. I particularly enjoy helping adolescents and young adults find their path through the world.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
