I specialize in maternal and women's issues, however, this is not where my expertise ends.
I'm not sure that I have an "ideal client". I am someone who is immensely curious about the human mind, who loves a challenge, and who always wants to help. I work with anyone and everyone and I'm always looking to experience something new! I am experienced in areas such as criminal justice issues, anger management, self-harm, suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, trauma, addictions, mood disorders, personality disorders, anxiety, maternal issues, family issues, and more. I have worked in crisis stabilization, corrections, and residential trauma treatment, allowing me to develop a very well-rounded and diverse clinical background.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards empowering yourself to learn, grow, and make positive changes in your life. Despite what others may have told you or what you may have told yourself, you have the power to transform your life and achieve your goals. All too often in the field of mental health, our experiences as women, are, more often than not, pathologized. Our best efforts at responding to the challenges and traumas we experience are often turned into diagnoses and disabilities.

I am on a mission to always strive for a better way to counsel middle-aged women who are considering or are now serving as their parents' primary caregiver/carer—a role-reversal few are prepared for especially if there is a history of unreported sibling physical and sexual abuse. My lived experience as a primary and long-distance carer coupled with over 20 years of counseling experience provide the foundational knowledge, clinical experience, and compassion necessary to validate and empower women serving as caregivers for aging parents—often without the support needed to maintain their own mental health wellness.

Therapy is hard! So why do we do it? Therapy is getting to know yourself and how you interact with your world. In other words, it's an investment in yourself to find the healing you desire. I will work with you to process and accept your pain, anxiety, and/or depressive symptoms so you can live your life with understanding, hope, and intention.

Life can bring pain and frustration into one's heart and mind. It creates sadness, anxiety, and a feeling of being stuck. It may feel hard to imagine that it is possible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. You may feel stuck personally or within your relationships. Therapy can offer clarity and strength as you work through, rather than avoid, that which causes you pain. Providing a safe space for someone to process is essential, and together we can traverse the inner journey of self-discovery. Exploring one's thoughts, feelings, and the unconscious can help illuminate what keeps one stuck in unhealthy patterns.

We all crave connection, peace, a sense of worth and belonging and we all go through periods of struggling to find wholeness. I see therapy as a partnership where I work to support you on your particular path towards healing, wholeness and thriving in your relationships. I believe my most important task is creating safety within the therapeutic encounter so that my clients have a place where they can vulnerability heal.

I work with moms who are struggling with their partner and looking for a safe space to open up about the toll parenting has taken on their romantic relationship. You may be wondering if it's supposed to feel THIS hard to connect and get along with each other. Parenthood stirs up lots of issues that you never knew were there before kids. I will help you gain a deeper understanding of what is at the core of your relationship issues and how to confidently talk about those issues with your partner so minor disagreements don't keep leading to major blow-ups. It takes guidance, patience and practice to start healing what's been broken.

My clients are primarily women. Whatever calls you to therapy can be the beginning of new possibilities. The pressures of external stressors, anxiety, depression and patterns of living can let us know that deeper changes are trying to happen in us. But how does an inner world reveal itself and offer its un-lived resources? A therapeutic relationship initiates a process of experiencing more about oneself. Many of my clients have been in therapy before and know that such a process can help release new energy and awareness. Listening to yourself sometimes begins with someone really listening with you.

Many families come to therapy feeling like they have tried everything & are at a loss with how to help their child regulate their emotions & behaviors. I collaborate with caregivers to understand & manage their infant/toddler/young child's behaviors through developmental & relational frameworks which create positive change in family dynamics. I work with children (0-8 yrs) & their caregivers to promote secure attachment, bonding, and mutual enjoyment. I also work with individual adults, most of whom are struggling with perinatal mental health, stress, anxiety, emotion regulation, parenting, ADHD, & interpersonal trauma.

Why go to therapy? You might seek therapy when experiencing emotional pain or stress, even confusion about a situation or about yourself. Life challenges can pile up and seem overwhelming. Worry can interfere with relationships, work, and sleep. One goal of therapy is to relieve stress and every session should offer greater understanding of issues and relief in some way. Maybe you feel all alone with your concerns—it’s normal to feel that way. Therapy offers a place of understanding and acceptance, a place to be heard, and for you to feel safe with all of your feelings and thoughts, even those that you feel no one else has.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
