The feeling of anger or silencing at the inconsideration of your present community is normal because what you are experiencing is trauma.
Are you struggling to move on from past trauma? Do you feel alone, confused, or angry? Is this causing anxiety or depression? I want to support you in rebuilding your identity and feeling human again. Often, our past shapes our idea of "normal," and we may not realize this "normal" could be traumatic. With compassion and kindness, in a safe space, we can work through experiences like physical, emotional, or spiritual trauma, and help you understand emotions like anger, anxiety, or apathy.

My therapy practice is centered in helping people discover the strength they already have, but have been struggling to use. Therapy can be useful for anyone, but sometimes finding the strength to seek out help can be the hardest part. I use a non-judgemental, empathetic, and casual approach with my clients to meet them wherever they are in their lives. Together, we establish goals and solutions. I work with those who are struggling with self-expression and effective communication as well as those who are having difficulty with identity exploration within and outside of relationships.

Hello, I'm Travis! I'm excited to meet you and start working with you on your therapy goals together. My ideal client is anyone who is struggling with navigating their life struggles. Additionally, it is constantly changing and often surprising. Assisting and strengthening others through turbulent times is what I enjoy doing. No matter what life presents us with, there is a way to capitalize on it—to grow, learn, progress, and be better (be even more successful) as a result of the action to the pain experienced. I know this professionally and personally. I have worked in trauma centers, emergency rooms.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards empowering yourself to learn, grow, and make positive changes in your life. Despite what others may have told you or what you may have told yourself, you have the power to transform your life and achieve your goals. All too often in the field of mental health, our experiences as women, are, more often than not, pathologized. Our best efforts at responding to the challenges and traumas we experience are often turned into diagnoses and disabilities.

Why go to therapy? You might seek therapy when experiencing emotional pain or stress, even confusion about a situation or about yourself. Life challenges can pile up and seem overwhelming. Worry can interfere with relationships, work, and sleep. One goal of therapy is to relieve stress and every session should offer greater understanding of issues and relief in some way. Maybe you feel all alone with your concerns—it’s normal to feel that way. Therapy offers a place of understanding and acceptance, a place to be heard, and for you to feel safe with all of your feelings and thoughts, even those that you feel no one else has.

Many people decide to come to counseling because they feel stuck. Often, this "stuckness" is based on a belief or value that has been imposed by someone else. Sometimes, we need help to break out of an unhelpful "mold." My goal is to build a unique relationship in your life where I can provide an unbiased, outsiders perspective on the situations and emotions you are dealing with. Life can be good, and life can also be really hard. How do you cope with the hard stuff? I seem to click really well with teens and young adults. I enjoy working with anyone one-on-one and will do my best to provide a safe and accepting environment.

Putting my therapeutic approach in a box is quite the challenge. I enjoy being a highly flexible therapist who serves women in most areas. I am a bit unorthodox and will take a very holistic and experiential approach to your treatment, as you are comfortable with. A lot of my work centers around finding balance both internally and externally, working through maladaptive belief systems and traumas, identifying personal values, and getting very intentional with our time and energy. I strongly believe in creating a highly individualized treatment plan for each client and avoid a "one size fits all" approach.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
