Do you struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, feeling not good enough, negative self-talk, or comparing yourself to others and feeling like you fall short? Or maybe you have feelings deep down that you are failing or that you're somehow inadequate, flawed, or unworthy of love, success, a promotion, a relationship, etc. You may experience these feelings about yourself in general or they may be tied to a specific area of your life - whether that's relationships, your work, or any other aspect.

Welcome! I am so glad you are here! I am passionate about client care and developing a therapeutic rapport. I believe our emotional health depends on our abilities to embrace our feelings, move toward social interest and attaining goals of self-worth relationships, work, and life in general. Our emotional and mental health suffers when there is inconsistencies between the image we have of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to help clients gain accurate perceptions of who they are in the world and the world around them by giving clients the support and tools needed to traverse the difficult terrains of life.

Life is a roller coaster! So many things have been changing around you that it’s been hard to get your head on straight. Between the ages of 18-45 women have so many roles to play these days, and you’ve been doing your best to keep up. But somehow you always feel like you aren’t doing it “right”. Family, school, work, friends – you’re always expected to perform and rarely get a moment to relax. Expectations come from all sides. The pressure keeps building and you’re just about ready to explode. Anxiety and depression take over. You don’t know how to cope with it all. Your days become exhausting.

Many of us seek therapy at different periods of our lives for different reasons, such as couple and family conflicts, losing loved ones, life transition issues, addiction, sadness, anxiety, and depression. We sometimes may not figure out what we are going through. Unknowns and uncertainties may increase in our lives and become unmanageable, or we are unable to fulfill our search for meaning. Therapy helps us cope with difficult and painful emotions, figure out what we are going through, and name it. Carl Rogers defines growth as any kind of movement toward “self-esteem, flexibility, or respect and compassion for self and others."

Therapies that focus on brain change, heal symptoms more rapidly and get to the deepest part of the issue. I work from a positive perspective that is both challenging and supportive simultaneously. Some people come to me to grow in areas of peak performance and others come to break free from the gridlock they experience in their significant relationships. Many people are stuck in a depressive or anxious cycle that doesn't allow them to be authentic in how they engage the world. I have been a therapist for over 20 years and I love it.

Experiences. They create meaning, create beliefs, create rules, created your views of self and other. Your lived experiences influence the choices you make, how you show up in your relationships, and how you interact with the world. Experiences can leave you exhausted, depleted, and void of hope. Like a wave that crashes over you, pulling you under, tumbling and tossing you beneath its power, leaving you frantic for the way up, searching for that breath of hope.

Welcome! We can all use a little bit of help sometimes. Having the courage to recognize that, and take action, says a lot about you and what you want to see in your future. Do you find it difficult to regulate your emotions, and see that this difficulty interferes in your relationships, work, school or other aspects of your life? Do you recognize thought patterns that repeat on loop and keep you stuck? Are there past events or present circumstances that you need help processing? Perhaps I can help. Therapy is a journey toward healing, acceptance and self-discovery. I would love to partner with you on your very personal journey.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
