I provide individual, couple/marital and family counseling and work with pre-teens (11-years and older), adolescent and adult clients.
I agree that finding a therapist that fits the individual's exact need is often a challenge. I offer a supportive but pragmatic approach to therapy that relies primarily on cognitive principles. I rely on nearly 30 years experience in the mental health field and bring a breadth of knowledge spanning a wide array of mental and emotional difficulties.

I specialize in working with chronic illness/disability, developmental and life transitions, the exploration of self (which may include ADHD, autism, depression, or anxiety), & teen/young adult development.
Being true to yourself in a changing world can be challenging. Therapy can help you to clarify who you are, what you believe, and how to get on the path you want to take. Counseling is an investment in yourself and a chance to be intentional with the life you have ahead. Life’s transitions and obstacles, whether they be internal, external, or systemic, can be made easier with some assistance. Holding space, bearing witness, identifying patterns, and highlighting your strengths: my role adjusts to your needs. My clients are able to share their whole selves as they work towards becoming their best selves.

‘I’m broken.’ Life and society tell us this, whether from neurodivergence, religious injury, attachment wounds, chronic pain, or struggling with parenting. Feeling inadequate can lead to isolation, depression, anxiety, and dread that there's too much wrong to fix. It feels true. Yet, my clients are capable, creative, loving, intelligent, and motivated. We’re all failing and excelling at once, making it overwhelming to know how to move forward. Counseling offers the space and time to slow down, find direction, and live meaningfully amidst the chaos.

Welcome! I am so glad you are here! I am passionate about client care and developing a therapeutic rapport. I believe our emotional health depends on our abilities to embrace our feelings, move toward social interest and attaining goals of self-worth relationships, work, and life in general. Our emotional and mental health suffers when there is inconsistencies between the image we have of ourselves and the world around us. My goal is to help clients gain accurate perceptions of who they are in the world and the world around them by giving clients the support and tools needed to traverse the difficult terrains of life.

I provide services to clients seeking psychological evaluations. Evaluations are commonly sought for concerns, such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Specific Learning Disorders, and OCD, to name a few. Some clients who are experiencing Gender Dysphoria also seek evaluations to support medical transition services. There has been confusion with my separate employment at Optum, where I do provide counseling. This is entirely separate from my private practice. No counseling services are offered in my private practice and I cannot communicate about Optum clients via my private practice. Optum clients should call 425-339-5453 for help.

Welcome! We can all use a little bit of help sometimes. Having the courage to recognize that, and take action, says a lot about you and what you want to see in your future. Do you find it difficult to regulate your emotions, and see that this difficulty interferes in your relationships, work, school or other aspects of your life? Do you recognize thought patterns that repeat on loop and keep you stuck? Are there past events or present circumstances that you need help processing? Perhaps I can help. Therapy is a journey toward healing, acceptance and self-discovery. I would love to partner with you on your very personal journey.

Most of my clients come to me feeling stuck, having tried "regular" talk therapy and looking for something, a modality or a therapist to help them move past old patterns of relating and triggers. These old patterns and triggers left unaddressed can easily feel like they are taking over your life! Together, with your permission, we will dive deeply into your story and uncover patterns of relating that have been preventing you from the life you want to live.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
