I specialize in working with women who want to improve how they feel about themselves and their relationships. Many of the women I work with have known adversity. You may be struggling with sadness, anxiety, anger—all feelings which are very normal given the stressful experiences you are going through. You want to move beyond the past so you can accept yourself as you are. Learning how to manage negative thoughts, intense emotions, setting boundaries, and improved communication would all be skills you’d like to improve upon.

I am ready to work with you no matter where you are on your life path or your readiness to change. I would especially love to work with you if you have ever felt marginalized, unacceptable, unlovable, stuck, traumatized, or doomed because of your past. I have 10+ years of experience helping clients like you to find meaningful change. Most of my experience has been meeting with clients in person, but right now I am only able to offer telehealth sessions. Clients and I have found that these virtual sessions can be just as effective as in-person meetings. Plus, they are convenient! Meet in your home, car, or while taking a walk!

My specialization is to work with adults in individual therapy to address experiences of depression, anxiety, and trauma. I am curious about the impact of trauma and difficult childhood experiences on present day self-regulation, relationship patterns, and parenting. While I don't directly treat ADHD and Autism, I am familiar with each condition's strengths and impact, and I love exploring how these contribute to our understanding and functioning.

Welcome! Are you a young adult needing support? Or a parent needing additional parenting strategies, or guidance to better understand/support your child? Are you worried about your child/teen’s emotional well-being or social skills? I enjoy working collaboratively with children and parents alike to improve child and family well-being, often finding that working with both provides the best outcomes for everyone. I have special interests in working with gifted and twice-exceptional (2E) clients and homeschool/online school clients. Lastly I absolutely love working with teens and young adults - they make up a large part of my caseload!

It is difficult to deal with strong feelings of anger, guilt sadness, grief, fear, or worry on your own. At the same time, it can be extremely difficult to let others around you know when you need help. You may have even been told that you just need to "tough it out", and "deal with it" all on your own. I'm here to say that you don't have to. Managing difficult emotions is easier said than done when going through stressful situations such as losing a loved one, ending a relationship, or dealing with financial stress. I am here if you are ready to make positive changes in your life, and are tired of doing it alone.

Your mind is different than others. This makes it difficult to manage your time, follow through on tasks, and stay focused. You make well-intentioned commitments that you struggle to keep. These challenges are complicated by medical issues. You look like you have it all together, but you’re struggling inside. This struggle is impacting your relationships, your home life, and your work. It also makes it difficult for you to enjoy your hobbies and pursue new ones. You’ve decided that it’s time to make some changes.

With over seventeen years of experience working with individuals, couples, and families, Michael has successfully helped many clients with complex issues that negatively impact their lives and their families in significant ways. He believes in treating clients holistically (mind, body, and spirit) and that the work clients do outside of therapy is as important as the work they do in session. Dr. Premièr strives to create a safe and accepting environment using gentle humor and empathy that promotes a platform for clients to not only achieve therapeutic goals, but also to reach their ultimate potential. As a writer, he sees the client as the author of their story and the therapist as an editor. The best authors need editors. He believes growth starts with humility and discomfort; therefore, the counseling process can be painful, however, the more effort one puts forth the more constructive results they’ll see.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
