Accepting new in person and Telehealth clients! Struggles people experience are as varied and individual as folks are themselves. However, experiences of betrayal, abandonment, and feelings of shame are often common roots underneath many life struggles. Whether you are going through a self betrayal, personal betrayal with a close friend or life partner, an institutional betrayal, or even feelings around spiritual betrayal, there is a way through where shame can find some exposure to light and air and deep healing can occur.

Do you want a fresh outlook? Are you looking for a new perspective? Do you want change that offers realistic hope? I have been privileged over the past 20 plus years of helping people address change. We all want to avoid addressing personal change. In many ways it is like musical chairs: We cling as long as possible to the perceived "safe" place that we already know, refusing to loosen our grip until we feel sure another safe place awaits. Together we will work to establish attainable goals that are best suited for your life.

You feel unnatural, like you’re following instructions. The idea of washing the dishes or emptying the dryer feels heavy, intimidating. You are lonely most of the day, but spending time with people doesn’t help. You try not to think about the future too much. You’re busy all day, and the tasks keep on piling up with no end in sight: there’s a long list of things you “haven’t gotten to yet”. Not even people close to you understand how hard you are working and how precarious your life is. Doctors haven’t helped any more than religion or podcasts. If anything, you are sinking deeper.

Hi, I'm Ryan and am currently accepting new clients for individual counseling. I'd love to connect with you and be of assistance in addressing such issues as: trauma history, identity, grief and loss, depression, anxiety, spirituality, and life transitions. I love supporting people who have been impacted by adoption and those who struggle with addiction. I can help you understand the "why" behind your thoughts, attitudes, and actions, and how getting below the surface to the root is the key to healing and growth.

First off I want to say I'm glad that you're here. It can be difficult looking into therapy but the fact that you're now reading this says two different things about you. The first thing is that you are coming to therapy because you feel like you need some extra help in order to move forward from a challenge that is currently happening or has happened. The second, (and most important), you have a strong sense of courage and grit to face the unknown, and to make a better life for yourself. There's a brave part of you that's urging you to continue your life's journey, and is trying to give direction to what will bring you peace.

I am currently accepting new clients. As a counselor, I believe in the power of stories—the ones we inherit, the ones we live, and the ones we have yet to create. Our work together will often entail identifying those narratives influencing your life that do not serve you, and engaging in the creative process of reauthoring a story that allows you to live the fulfilling and purposeful life you hope for and deserve. Although each relationship I build with my clients is different, my approach is grounded in my trust that you already possess the tools you need to achieve your goals.

Adolescence can be an incredibly confusing, difficult, and demanding time in life. The pressures of school, peers, family, and building one’s identity, not to mention thinking about the future, can contribute to any number of mental health challenges. For kids, teens, and young adults these days, trying to address these challenges can be scary and uncomfortable. Being open to exploring these experiences takes courage and having the opportunity to do so in a safe, confidential, and open environment can foster change and personal growth.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.
How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.
Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.
Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
