I use EMDR to help people reprocess trauma and loosen its grip.
Welcome. Perhaps you know exactly why you're here. Perhaps you're contemplating. It may be healing from past trauma, shaping your anxious energy into something productive, envisioning your days without the weight of depression, searching your soul for connection to something greater, restoring relationships, evicting those critical thoughts you keep thinking about yourself/others, coping effectively with the ridiculous amount of stress out there, spiritual development, or tackling that “thing” that keeps holding you back. My therapeutic style balances understanding of where you're at with keeping you moving forward.

I use EMDR, CBT/DBT, play therapy, and other interventions, depending on individual needs.
I see adults, teens, and children in my practice. Trauma, addiction, and burnout/vicarious trauma are my primary areas of focus with adults. The adults I see are typically looking to resolve childhood trauma, develop healthier relationships, or manage anxiety related to high-stress occupations (first responders, social workers, nurses, teachers, etc). The children and teens I see are often impacted by depression/anxiety, coping with divorce or loss of a caregiver, and/or living with the impact of substance use by a family member.

I recently completed training for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) an evidence-based therapy for PTSD, and am currently completing consultation hours to ensure my fidelity and outcome measures for effectiveness of treatment.
An ideal client would be a person who is ready to work through the patterns and issues that keep getting in the way of satisfaction and wellness in life. My work with clients is focused on an individual’s strength while helping them to develop an understanding of their past and present, their inner beliefs and resulting underlying issues. I strive to provide clients with a safe, supportive and caring environment in which to explore their personal issues.

“The fundamental principle in care of the soul is that the soul needs tending. If we do not tend to things in their suffering, and decay, we risk living the life of the walking dead.” ~Thomas Moore. As I acquire experience as a therapist, it has become apparent that the therapeutic relationship between the counselor and the client is crucial to the success of the client. Counseling is based on trust and the professional connection, and through that connection, the counseling session becomes a co-creation that can unlock the client’s barriers to a fulfilling life.

Here you will find a safe place, to examine who you are and explore the challenges life brings us in a respectful environment. Therapy should be, an interesting and fascinating process of finding peace, looking at your hopes and dreams, and clarifying, for yourself, who you want to be, then developing steps to make that happen. Sometimes it is a crisis that brings one to therapy and sometimes it is a persistent question: whatever the reason you are looking into counseling, you will find respect and support here. We will strive to develop a balanced, constructive self-perspective.

I am EMDR trained and Internal Family Systems basic trained, but draw upon a variety of treatment methods.
Each of our lives contain periods of both great suffering and great joy. Most of these experiences are unpredictable and beyond our control, but there are resources that can help us reduce our emotional suffering and experience more wellbeing. My hope is to provide a gracious space for clients to authentically navigate the complexities of life and to support them as they access their own inner wisdom. This work often requires sifting through messages we have internalized over the years. I’m here to support my clients in this discovery and healing process and to help them develop concrete resources to utilize in real life.

I help these folks overcome anxiety, burnout, and trauma—often using a method called EMDR.
You’ve spent most of your life looking out for others—now you’re wondering who’s looking out for you. Even as a kid, you felt responsible for keeping your household running smoothly. Being resourceful and independent is a foundational part of who you are professionally and personally, but no one ever seems to reciprocate the same amount of consideration or support you give them. You’re burnt out and overwhelmed, and the people closest to you offer more stress than solace. Maybe you’re also dealing with memories from your past that you can’t seem to leave behind. Now, you just want to feel less stressed & more like yourself again.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
