Additionally, I often work with anxiety, grief, depression and eating disorders.
Life is unpredictable with many ups and downs. No matter how much we want life to move in a linear fashion it often goes unplanned causing us to feel off balance. I believe therapy is a safe place to begin your own personal journey and learning to be present in your life. It allows you to rediscover who you are. Therapy is different for every individual and/or couple. I have an EMDR, existential & integrative approach to helping clients create healthy, fulfilling and rewarding lives. I integrate therapeutic styles depending on the best fit for client and situation.

Life comes with joy and pain, love and anger, accomplishments and mess-ups, and sometimes confusion. The times when we struggle and feel stuck or confused as individuals, as couples & as parents are often signals that it’s time to grow. I work collaboratively with my clients and have great success utilizing techniques from Internal Family Systems (IFS) as well as Narrative and Psychodynamic therapy to treat trauma, anxiety, panic, depression, grief and eating disorders. I also work with individuals, couples and families facing every day parenting, life and relationship challenges.

I specialize in working with adolescents individually and in groups to overcome feelings of anxiety and depression.
I believe the that therapy is an opportunity to explore ones inner world, express feelings and concerns, heal from pain and suffering, and learn how to harness a more enriching and fulfilling life. I have worked with people from all backgrounds and walks of life and believe that we all have the possibility to improve our lives. Suffering is part of the shared human experience, but how we deal with our unique circumstances differentiates each one of us.

My areas of focus are anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, couples counseling, and development across the life span.
We experience many changes and challenges, such as relocation, growing within relationships, parenthood, or changes in education, career or employment status. Loss comes in many forms, and grief looks different for each individual. Therapy is a way to navigate these challenges, to grow self-awareness and coping skills, and to find meaning in the unexpected, while exploring the external and internal factors that influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Issues that I find are particularly satisfying to process include: Transitions, Grief & Loss, Finding Meaning, Depression, Anxiety, Substance Abuse, Relationships, Family Patterns, Motivation, Career Development, Fear, Self-Image, Self-Care, Eating Issues, and Personal Environments.
Do you experience feelings of sadness or hopelessness? Are you having problems in your relationships, at work or with your loved ones, your partner or your children? Perhaps areas of your life no longer seem as satisfying as they once did. I believe that as we navigate the waters of life, we are constantly adjusting to the subtle and profound changes put before us. How we experience those changes, as sadness or hopelessness, loss or opportunity, with sadness or joy determines the course we will follow. How we move forward is unique and personal, yet no one needs to navigate the journey alone.

As human beings, we have the capacity to experience life’s beauty, hardships, and everything in between. There will be times when we feel stuck, confused, or defeated. In these moments, our identity, values, and life goals may come into question. I believe therapy provides a nonjudgmental space to explore how life events impact us and others, and it is my goal to help my clients reach a better understanding of themselves in relation to their life experiences. I work with adolescents, adults, and families who are experiencing depression, anxiety, life transitions, burnout, disconnect, and symptoms of trauma/PTSD.

Feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by recent changes in your life, or just want to function better? I help clients navigate changes in their life and discover long term ways to manage their overall mental health. I work well with adult 18 + clients who are experiencing a life transition (starting/graduating college, career change, recent marriage), depression/ anxiety, chronic medical issues (or recent diagnosis) or those in helping professions. As a mixed-raced person, I also enjoy exploring the many intersectional layers that come with trying to understand our own identity.

Taking the first step may be scary, especially if this is your first time or you have had a bad experience. Sometimes, finding a therapist with shared experiences or life experiences can be hard as well. I have a passion not only for helping but also for listening to individuals, couples, and families. However, I am incredibly passionate about helping persons of color, adolescents (12+), families, and adults of all ages address life's challenges, such as anxiety, depression, school issues, divorce, relationships, families, and work-life balance.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
