You’ve had ups & downs, successes & failures, you’ve kept getting up when you’ve fallen down & you’ve carried on. But now, you’ve hit the point where you don’t want to keep reaching for the next thing, keep pushing those recurring thoughts & feelings away. You want to transform parts of yourself & experience something different, to find a sense of wholeness. Maybe it’s stuff from childhood that won’t leave you alone, the racing thoughts, the self-criticism, the anxious feelings, the broken relationships with others or with yourself, the anger, the stress, the sadness…Whatever it is, there’s hope for something more, something better.

Hello. If you are looking for a therapist, the most important thing is for you to work with someone who will relate specifically to you and can help you heal. I work with each client as a unique individual with a goal to heal the whole person. Real and lasting change comes not only from an understanding of your issues and concerns, but from creating corrective emotional experiences that allow you to release old and unproductive patterns of thinking and behaving.

EMDR, Lifespan Integration, and DBT all help to heal and restore lives to a place they were meant to be.
Life is unpredictable. As hard as we try to manage our daily lives and our relationships with friends, family, and colleagues, circumstances beyond our control can make us feel lost and isolated, sometimes hopeless. That's why we all occasionally need guidance: to see that there is always hope on the other side of adversity. My name is Ann Horton, and I specialize in therapies that can help you resolve the personal issues that detract from the joy of your day-to-day life, whether they're born of recent misfortune or deeply rooted trauma.

I specialize in DBT/CBT (Mindfulness), Logotherapy, SFT (Solution/Strengths focused therapy), Trauma/ Social Justice Informed Therapy, Somatic Therapy (Movement, Yoga, Breathwork), Expressive Arts/ Music and Holistic Wellness.
Former Roman emperor, Marcus Aurelius, once wrote, “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” As a mental health therapist associate from South Texas, I realize that therapy goes beyond the diagnosis realm and into a wider space of understanding, attunement, and healing. Renowned physician, Gabor Mate asserted that healing does not rely on getting rid of the pain but in increasing one’s capacity to be resilient to it. I honor you as a human, with many parts and crevices that showcase your authentic self. My approach is geared toward helping you feel seen, heard, and empowered; Be Here Now.

A few modalities I practice are Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
Life never goes the way we plan, especially during adolescence and young adulthood. It feels like you know everything yet as time goes by, you realize there is so much more to learn. Once you think you have it figured out, life happens and your path completely changes. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington State, I offer Individual Therapy to Adolescents and Young Adults. I support clients experiencing challenges with academics, socializing, communication, problem solving, and time management. We will work together to determine your strengths and how to help you move towards positive change.

My therapeutic approaches include CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), CPRT (Child-Parent Relational Therapy), EFIT (Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy), ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), with a culturally appropriate framework, congruent with clients’ level of acculturation and desire to reach equanimity.
I love counseling, coaching and consulting. In delivering these approaches to enrich my clients’ lives, different modalities are used. These include and are not limited to cognitive behavioral, emotionally focused individual therapy, and humanistic/existential format – pinpointing where the client is at, promoting an understanding of their subjective experience while also honoring their past experiences. For some, recognizing and bringing awareness on how those experiences influence their present lives cultivates healing- one goal being maximizing an individual’s potential to enrich their lives according to their core values.

My practice focus includes Mindfulness, Coping skills, Relapse Prevention, Boundaries, Communication, Self-care, DBT skills and CBT skills.
My clients range in age from adolescent up and through adulthood. They are navigating substance use and are often caught between use (experimental or ongoing) and the desire for a more positive lifestyle as something in their life is not working how they would like. My clients also include the families of those navigating substance use, often finding themselves in search of a balance between supporting their loved one while still living their own fulfilling lives. Regardless of who my client is, each deserves a life free of the chaos they are currently experiencing.

Hello! Thank you for considering me as a potential partner in your therapeutic journey. I've had the privilege of working with diverse clients of all ages since 2015 and specifically in a theraputic setting following my graduation from the University of Washington in 2021. Throughout my career, I've pursued ongoing education and training in various therapeutic modalities, including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, and Crisis and Suicide Intervention. I believe in the importance of tailoring interventions to meet each client's unique needs, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy.

I use a variety of approaches in my work but lean towards modalities like DBT, Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy.
My clients often come to me facing challenges navigating life and trying to manage things like anxiety, stress, substance use issues, and relationships. Maybe traditional methods of recovery haven't worked for you and you're feeling stuck. Or maybe you want to continue working from a traditional recovery lense & fine tune some of your skills. My clients come wanting to explore their substance use, identify what their ideal recovery looks like and how to get there. You can expect us working together in sessions to develop realistic and attainable goals; things that you would like to see change in your life. Let me help you get there!

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
