For over 35 years, I've helped individuals struggling with trauma, grief, stress, anxiety, depression, and relationships.
I currently have online openings for new clients. We live in difficult times, and you deserve to be understood and helped no matter how painful your challenges. I refuse to believe you're 'mentally ill' and won't stigmatize you with labels, jargon, and pills. We'll be allies in our work together, and our project is you. Whether you're seeking psychotherapy, counseling, or coaching, we'll work intensely and collaboratively to promote positive change, restore balance, and promote resilience in facing life's challenges. The first step must be yours, and that's to call or email me so we can discuss what you're dealing with.

Can you imagine that it's possible to behold your journey as an opportunity for growth, healing and enriched connections? What would it be like to know that you have the capacity to hold both grief and gratitude? It could be that you have come to a cross-road or are standing on significant thresholds as you face transitions, challenges and decision-making. Maybe grief has cracked you open, or you are struggling with illness and long to discover meaning and balance once again. Perhaps you have an emergent sense that there is “something more” that you are yearning for?

I have worked extensively with depression, adjusting to motherhood, body image issues, grief, and parenting concerns and helping families create a new pattern of interaction.
Hope often sounds like a wishful word in our culture - but I want you to leave therapy with more hope - the gritty, scrappy, resilient kind. This authentic hope grows as you embrace your life story with all its darkness and light. You don't need to talk about everything at once, but just give yourself a place and time to connect with your whole self and pay attention to your life as it is now. As you connect deeply with yourself you are able to carve out space to reimagine how your life and relationships could be.

Experience tells me that grief and loss can feel like we are dropped into an unknown land.
I specialize in grief and loss, medical trauma, PTSD, anxiety and shame issues. I have over 25 years experience working in both the mental health field as well as hospice and palliative medicine. My work with clients is marked by calm, curiosity and compassion. I believe that grief is something that cannot be fixed, but it can be navigated and supported. I serve my clients by providing education, empathetic listening, and strategies for coping with grief. If there are elements of trauma within one's experience, I use Lifespan Integration. I also use Internal Family Systems as a way build more compassion and calm internally.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
