I use an eclectic approach incorporating existential and cognitive-behavioral theories as well as mindfulness based techniques into my practice.
Has becoming a parent been more challenging than you expected? Are you struggling to feel connected to your partner or to your baby? Are you feeling unsupported, exhausted, fearful, or sad when you thought you would be feeling elated? Are you questioning whether your experience is normal and wondering if things could be better? Now more than ever, moms and parents are feeling the pressure to be "perfect" without the support they really need to thrive. You can and should be doing more than just surviving parenthood.

I primarily see adults and adolescents; and my experience in trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based practices, and cognitive- behavioral therapy allows for gentle movement towards change and self-acceptance.
Through the process of psychotherapy individuals can explore where personal and relationship change may be needed and where old painful patterns may be released. I work to assist my clients with navigating life's challenges, strengthening their relationship to themselves/others, focusing on symptom management/alleviation, along with compassionate and creative exploration into the past to understand current impact.

It is my hope that clients gain from counseling specific tools they can apply to their lives to feel better equipped in dealing effectively with their life circumstances. I tailor my counseling to the needs of the client, using various therapeutic techniques to provide clients skills such as communication, emotion management, mindfulness techniques, coping, parenting, etc. I incorporate an educational component, presenting information to enhance knowledge regarding various issues that clients face. I often include homework to make use of the time between sessions. When desired, I approach issues from a Biblical perspective.

Cognitive Behavior and Mindfulness Therapy.
Our lives are often impacted by forces beyond our control. We wonder if life will ever return to "normal." I work with young and old who encounter challenges common to modern living: Retirement, work stress, men's relationship dynamics, personal tragedy, financial troubles, loss of community, and loss of direction. I also address unique challenges associated with aging: Chronic and acute illness, life partner debilitation, and hardships unforeseen. Refocus and reclaim your strengths and life as we work together on insights, new strategies and skills that enable you to overcome obstacles, re-connect with life and your passions.

I help with understanding the whole system and enacting new behavior changes that lead to more awareness and control over symptoms using Mindfulness and Somatic Approaches.
I am passionate about working with individuals and couples. Navigating live's challenges can be really intimidating amidst the stressors of life, especially when they all start piling up and ways you used to cope before stop working. Before giving up, try seeking help from a qualified professional and learn new ways of understanding and interacting with your environment. By identifying and working through barriers, new patterns can be learned, and healing experiences can be found. Resources can be gained and emotional resilience can be improved. You can find the harmony you desire within your life, and it starts here.

In my work I also use Experiential Therapy Techniques, DBT, Mindfulness and Emotionally Focused Family Therapy skills.
We all get stuck & that's simply part of being imperfectly human. There are times in life when we need someone to walk beside us as we navigate new paths into healthier relationships. Relationships with ourselves and others. Intentionally cultivating new patterns of interaction and deconstruction patterns that no longer serve us. I act as a choreographer of conversations, aimed to explore emotional connections & attachment injuries and impasses. As humans, we have a biological need to feel seen to be safe, secure & connected in our relationships. I work collaboratively with clients creating safety, change & a new path forward.

I practice from a personalized approach using ACT, CBT, and mindfulness practices.
Accepting Clients! Perhaps the journey through pregnancy or the arrival of a new baby has left you feeling a little out of sorts, or just plain overwhelmed. I empower mothers to rediscover what brings them joy and quiet the chaos. Despite being a pro-active and deeply caring parent, this transition is hard. With the swirl of excitement and concern surrounding your child- it can feel like you've lost yourself along the way. Making decisions from a place of intention rather than exhaustion is not out of your reach. While you focus time on your little one and your goals, my aim is to focus on what you need .

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
