Specialized training in OCD and ERP through NOCD.
Dr. Lintin understands how stepping into your truth may be frightening. There is no right way to uncover emotions that may be blocking you from living a fulfilled life. Everyone has stories to tell, unique, inspiring, challenging and sometimes devastating. The shocking thing is that many people walk through life without ever sharing these life events and so often with trauma, the guilt and shame can stop you from telling anyone causing difficulties in your relationships with others in both personal and professional life.

As helpful as traditional talk therapy can be, your mind is in every cell of your body, so creating shifts in your mind or body requires working with both. I work with mind and body at the same time: with bodywork (CranioSacral Therapy techniques) I can sense and help you release physical and energetic restrictions so your body can function more optimally, and with therapeutic dialoguing (Hypnotherapy techinques) I can help discover and transform internal conflict to help you feel at ease within yourself. My goal is to help you feel better from the very first session.

*Accepting new clients*- It can be lonely and overwhelming to find ourselves in emotional struggle. The therapeutic relationship is unique and one that I deeply trust. It's instrumental to have a companion and guide as we traverse these unchartered inner landscapes. The pain we feel invites us on a transformative journey from obscurity to clarity. It's so tempting to contract when we are challenged, but it's critical to soften and trust into the process. This movement through our pain rearranges us into an expanded version of ourselves. I bring the qualities of warmth, openness, and curiosity to this transformative work together.

Anxiety, depression and other issues can take us off guard, blindsiding us by suddenly challenging our confidence, undermining our autonomy, and bringing to mind some of our most difficult experiences. It is common to assume these problems will go away on their own or if we just take a break. It is my experience that over time these problems reoccur in even more confusing and disorienting ways that might lead to crisis, leaving us feeling even more isolated and vulnerable. Sometimes the most difficult step is just asking for help, to place ourselves in a position of vulnerability.

Life is about transitions, changing and growing in ways we don’t expect, don’t understand, and sometimes don’t enjoy very much, nonetheless always striving to become something more than we are right now. I’ve experienced many transitions in fifty years of life, and I’ve come to realize that we are going to change some kind of way. The greatest question is will we let life sweep us along, or will we choose to aim for a destination, collecting stories and wisdom – and yes, more than a few scars – as we go?

As a therapist, I believe in being genuine, respectful and empathetic. For a therapeutic relationship to develop, clients need to feel seen and understood. I strive to help my clients understand their own emotions, cope with difficult feelings, improve their relationships with themselves and the people they care about. Years ago, as a beginning therapist, I was influenced by research showing that the critical therapeutic element in psychotherapy, regardless of the discipline, was the relationship between the therapist and the client. Contemporary research confirms the importance of relationship in fostering therapeutic change.

I expect a client to have some real issues, why else would they seek out help. Ideally they still have some hope that things can get better. Not too much anger but we will deal with that and importantly that they are willing to share what is real about their feelings and experiences. My ideal client finds that they can change things and that they can accept that bad things sometimes happen. In the end they finish therapy feeling confident that life is good and that they can handle what ever comes along.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
