Many families come to therapy feeling like they have tried everything & are at a loss with how to help their child regulate their emotions & behaviors. I collaborate with caregivers to understand & manage their infant/toddler/young child's behaviors through developmental & relational frameworks which create positive change in family dynamics. I work with children (0-8 yrs) & their caregivers to promote secure attachment, bonding, and mutual enjoyment. I also work with individual adults, most of whom are struggling with perinatal mental health, stress, anxiety, emotion regulation, parenting, ADHD, & interpersonal trauma.

My approach is present, relational, science informed, yet intuitive.
I specialize in working with those who yearn for deeper connection in their lives, care about their collective impact, and desire a life full of confidence and joy. Many of my clients have been called too sensitive, are deep feelers, experience chronic issues, and have struggled to find effective ways of breaking these cycles to step into the wellness they desire. We heal though relationship, which is why quality therapy can be life changing. We will leverage the therapeutic relationship and co-create an empowering space to release symptoms and patterns that no longer serve in order to cultivate your true and fulfilled self.

In addition to relational and evidenced-based therapeutic approaches, we will explore potential hurdles that keep you from attaining your goals and deepen your knowledge about your ADHD brain.
As a woman with ADHD, do you feel that your ADHD is impacting your relationships, self-esteem, goals and/or work? Do you find yourself saying sentences like, ‘I should…, ‘Why can’t I just...’, or ‘If I wasn’t so lazy…’? What if you could find strategies that could help you manage the things that feel like they always are falling through the cracks? Women with ADHD often experience ADHD differently than the stereotypical symptoms. What if you could find validation and understanding of your experience? Whether you have been diagnosed with ADHD for years or just starting your journey, your ADHD doesn't have to feel like a burden.

I utilize relational and feminist approaches, am EMDR trained, and use attachment theory, IFS, DBT skills, and MBCT.
Most of us carry around stories about who we are and who we should be without really knowing how we got them or if we want to keep them. Therapy is a place to gently explore and unpack these narratives. My clients want to like and understand themselves more, have better relationships, and feel more hope and possibility in their lives. They are determined and brave, but often have been trying things that aren't working or leave them more stuck. I believe every person has an innate capacity to heal, but sometimes trauma and life experiences can block those pathways and make life feel narrow and small.

My practice grounds in Buddhist psychology, anti-oppression, and somatic- relational approaches.
Even when we recognize that some of our emotional pain is unnecessary, it can still be challenging to understand why we experience this extra suffering and how to alleviate it. Anxiety, depression, trauma reactivation, relationship difficulties, and unhealthy coping strategies are common responses to life experiences and circumstances. Do they need to hurt so and are we stuck with them? Therapy is a great place to gain perspective on what you can change. Also, to widen the horizon from managing pain to living more fully like yourself and to thriving. Because, as Thich Nhat Hanh said, "suffering is not enough".

My relational and psychoanalytical approach invites a style that is warm, interactive, compassionately direct, holistic, and experientially grounded in what works.
Isolation is the killer. For many, influences to pivot away from isolation and towards healing, connection, and growth are complex, challenging, and hopeful. My clients are invited to explore their “painful wounds” and discover how their pain’s influence leads to self-identity issues, certain behaviors, relationship constraints, and patterns that decrease movement toward growth. Growth towards living with a whole heart of emotions, less ambiguity, finding increased purpose, and engaged relationships. Growth towards self-compassion and employing in their lives what they value most.

I use a relational approach to therapy, meaning that the therapeutic relationship can be used to help heal past and present relationships.
Therapy works best when it is tailored to your needs. My job is to provide a safe and welcoming place for you to show up just as you are, to feel heard and supported, and to work through the issues that are causing distress. Sometimes we know why we are feeling what we are feeling and sometimes we don’t—both are great places to start therapy. Together we can explore what is happening in your life and find solutions that best suit you. I enjoy working with teens and adults on a wide range of issues and most recently spent time working with adolescents as a school-based therapist in middle school and high school.

As an individual and relationship therapist, I strive to help folks find empowerment, freedom, joy, and connection in the face of systemic oppression. My approach is warm, supportive, and relational. I am particularly passionate about supporting those from LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and immigrant backgrounds. Cultural messages and challenging past experiences can disconnect us from ourselves, from each other, and from our truth. I see my role as helping you uncover what is hidden, break free from constraining patterns, and reconnect with whatever and whoever make you feel most vibrantly and fully alive. Please see website for more details.

Rooted in Attachment Theory, and informed and affirmed by Internal Family Systems methodology (not to mention other relational psychotherapies), I help folks know their powerful presence amidst, and not absent, the glory of vulnerability.
Who, really, is able to hear, feel, and see you . . . bless and name your glory and shame? Only those who continue to do their own courageous work of daring to be truly heard, felt, and seen. Simple but not easy! The journey, however, is worth it. Life changing . . . with the right guide, i.e., presence. A favorite quote comes to mind: "We all come into this world looking for someone looking for us." If that resonates with your heart (courageous or not) then I hope to hear from you. We might just be a good fit? Please email me at: drdanny(at)doc-danny(dot com). Or call: two-zero-six...four-two-nine...four-five-seven-nine.

Relational Therapists

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
