I have been trained by the world renowned Gott man Institute for couples work.
Sometimes life can throw us a curve ball and we need some help navigating the unexpected. Most of us will seek therapy at some point in our lives, but that doesn’t make asking for help any easier. For many of us, that is the most difficult step. I specialize in a strengths-based, person-centered approach that helps my clients learn to challenge their own automatic thought patterns in a way that frees them to create the future they desire rather than be a slave to automatic thinking. Strongly believing in a collaborative approach to therapy where we work together as a team, I consider myself a guide as we work toward your goals.

I like helping couples resolve issues of communication, conflict management, emotional reconnection, sexual dysfunction, marriage counseling and affair recovery.
Do you want a fresh outlook? Are you looking for a new perspective? Do you want change that offers realistic hope? I have been privileged over the past 20 plus years of helping people address change. We all want to avoid addressing personal change. In many ways it is like musical chairs: We cling as long as possible to the perceived "safe" place that we already know, refusing to loosen our grip until we feel sure another safe place awaits. Together we will work to establish attainable goals that are best suited for your life.

I assist those who have become aware that the story they are currently living is no longer serving them well. Together we will create a therapeutic environment that cultivates this initial awareness. Through the learned application of compassionate boundaries and a mind/body integrative approach, we work to resolve the past dysfunctional or traumatic parts of your story. As we bring balance to our mind/body through awareness, we may align ourselves with our spiritual center to create a new intentional, energetic story that allows healing and the possibility of wellbeing. I further offer nature therapy and grounding/yogic guidance.

I believe that each of us has the capacity to become knowledgeable about what feels workable in day-to-day living and to uncover what personal values we would like to strive for in our life. I am drawn to working with folks who want to discover more about themselves (both strengths and areas of growth), their identity, their relationships, their role in the world, and how to lead a fulfilling, meaningful life. I value the opportunity to think together with clients about how therapy could be most helpful for them. I am well-suited to work with people who are looking for meaningful and measurable change in their life.

Adolescence can be an incredibly confusing, difficult, and de manding time in life. The pressures of school, peers, family, and building one’s identity, not to mention thinking about the future, can contribute to any number of mental health challenges. For kids, teens, and young adults these days, trying to address these challenges can be scary and uncomfortable. Being open to exploring these experiences takes courage and having the opportunity to do so in a safe, confidential, and open environment can foster change and personal growth.

Consider meeting with me to hear more about my unique approach to talk therapy, which many have reported is uplifting and inspirational.
I have over ten years of experience as a master’s level social worker. I am now accepting new patients. I work with individuals, couples, and families. For individual therapy, I see anyone ages 13 and up. I have a solution-focused and evidence-based practice that is trauma-informed. With the brief interventions I have developed over the years, you will likely see at least some benefit as soon as the first time we meet. Then, as we get to know one another, I work to develop a more in-depth understanding of your challenges, allowing us to cultivate a prosperous therapeutic alliance.

"What are you?" was a question I quickly became accustomed to growing up in the Pacific Northwest. With roots in Chamoru, Irish and Armenian heritage, there is no box for me to check. This question has been a lifelong journey in understanding who I am in the context of others, and more importantly how I define myself. I hope to work with others who are embarking on their own cultural journey and are seeking deeper answers to questions about themselves.

I learn and deepen my appreciation for my fellow hu mans with every client I see.
As a counselor, I believe in the power of stories—the ones we inherit, the ones we live, and the ones we have yet to create. Oftentimes, our work together will entail identifying those narratives influencing your life that do not serve you and engaging in the creative process of reauthoring a story that allows you to live the fulfilling and purposeful life you hope for. Although each relationship I build with my clients is different, my approach is grounded in my trust that you already possess the tools you need to achieve your goals.

I am not your conventional psychotherapist. My journey into the world of mental health is uniquely shaped by my background as a ski journalist and lived experiences of grief, loss, tragedy, and trauma. Driven by a desire to bridge my passion for storytelling with holistic healing, I use my sincere interest in the hu man experience in the therapy setting to treat adults, couples, and families living with shame, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, addiction, and life transitions and questions. As the Sufi poet Rumi once wrote, “The cure for pain is in the pain.”

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client. Prospective clients should also ask what the expectation is for treatment, and what the fee structure is, and whether and which insurance plans are accepted.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with a male therapist. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges, in the case of male clients. Some women have prior negative experiences with women that predispose them to prefer working with a male in therapy. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
