Welcome! I am a licensed psychologist specializing in challenges with self-worth and relational trauma, as well as the feelings of depression, anxiety, or numbness that often occur with these experiences. My work is rooted in attachment-focused and trauma-informed approaches - I help people understand how relationships (especially the earliest ones in our lives) impact being able to feel emotionally safe with themselves and others. I especially enjoy helping people get out of their heads and into their hearts, or do the opposite when it would help to slow down our emotional experiences to make sense of them.

Women seeking healthier relationships are my specialty. Even now, if you are deciding to change how you exist in this world you are already in transformation. Transformation comes through making choices that are conscious, consistent & compassionate and through dis-internalizing systems that are set up to repress and minimize your preciousness. The more we do this, the more we can give & receive love, find our fellow travelers (because we aren't meant to do this alone!) and create safe spaces in otherwise stormy places. With hearts open, and wisdom engaged, change becomes beautifully inevitable.

Are you feeling overwhelmed? Struggling with transition, trauma, or loss? Longing for a life that fits with who you truly are inside? Depression, grief, relationship issues, trauma, & anxiety can leave you exhausted, stuck in painful old patterns. But they can also be opportunities for growth. Therapy is a process of "tending the soul," as well as addressing life's problems. I especially like working with women in midlife. My ideal client will want a therapeutic experience where they find the courage to be imperfect. They should want a genderqueer psychotherapist who is fat, neurospicy, queer, and believes in finding joy without toxic positivity. I provide letters to support gender-affirming healthcare and believe in gender joy. My ideal client should know that we don't need to relive their trauma to process their trauma. I am a therapist who strives to understand individuals within their social constructs and will meet my clients wherever they are on their journey.

Psychoanalytic Therapists

Does psychoanalytic therapy work?

Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviors. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?

Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behavior is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?

Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?

Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
