I base my practice on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT), a cognitive-behavioral, evidence-based approach.
Our beliefs, behavior patterns, and perceptions can prevent us from living a fulfilling and meaningful life. Noticing how we think and identifying life values can provide a compass for living and give us direction, away from anxiety and depression. We can be empowered by choices about where our mind would take us.

I utilize modalities such as parts work, DBT, ACT, narrative therapy, and somatic experiencing.
Are you tired of therapists starting their bios with rhetorical sentences? (I’ve always wanted to start my bio that way). I am energized by working with people who feel tired of the ‘usual’ therapy process, and I love supporting people in their process toward increasing their life and relationship satisfaction by learning (and relearning) effective skills. Often these tools are obscured by coping skills that have been successfully utilized for short-term survival and therefore turned into habits. I love working with families (including couples), and individuals who are willing to show up.

I truly appreciate working with individuals and families to help them find peace, and acceptance.
You are worthy. You are capable. You are not broken. You can get through this. These are phrases that may be hard to believe for all of us at times due to various life experiences, transitions, or circumstances. While partnering with clients I use a mix of approaches, namely cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness therapy, and acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT). The best fit therapy approach coupled with a strength-based perspective is used to support you in managing emotional distress, increasing self-respect, developing and maintaining new skill sets for coping, and navigating through life’s challenges.

I use a combination of therapeutic methods, dependent on individual need: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, aspects of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy; guided imagery, mindfulness and meditation exercises.
I utilize Motivational Interviewing with a Humanistic/Existential approach as a foundation to my therapy. Which means understanding that a "whole" person is more than the sum of his or her parts. I understand people by examining their interpersonal relationships. That people have many levels of self-awareness, that can be neither ignored nor put into an abstr act context. I also believe individuals have free will and are participants rather than observers in their own lives; and that people's lives have purpose, value and meaning. I choose to submerge myself into the world of the person; I am working with.

A lot of people come for therapy because they are not feeling good. This might be from a trauma or a difficult life changing event, or they haven’t been feeling good or something isn’t right in that moment. Therapy can be an eye opening to these aspects and a place to address what concerns you to improve your life. There are always two sides for life. You could be wonderful enjoying your life and it still could be struggling. It’s okay not to be okay. Sometimes all we need is someone to really understand what’s going on and listen to us.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
