My role as a therapist is to listen, diagnose, and present coping skills and therapeutic techniques. You will be asked to apply these skills to the best of your ability, giving you hope for an improved quality of life. The therapy model I use is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). You will be encouraged to take an active part in your treatment plan. Honesty, trust, patience, and committment are the basics for building a therapeutic relationship with positive results. Many of us drag our pasts along with us like a ball and chain that clanks loudly whenever we move; we are never able to forget those events and traumas because every time we try to change, the loud noise reminds us of all the things that have hurt us. So…what if we really acknowledge the past, and the terrible hurts, and then grasp, viscerally, that there is nothing we can do about what has happened? What if we ask ourselves if we have to continue to be hurt, to replay old issues and be triggered by them, and let them continue to run, and perhaps even ruin, our lives?
