"Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. It's not always comfortable, but it's never weakness."--Brene Brown. Hi, I'm Lydia and I utilize a solution focused, mindfulness based approach to aid clients in exploring their authentic selves and behavioral patterns. Like a Phoenix, I believe individuals have the ability to rise from the ashes as renewed, stronger versions of themselves. Whether those ashes are from broken relationships, perpetual marital problems, crippling anxiety, career dissatisfaction or the aftermath of trauma, they have the ability to transform you.

Hi there, thanks for stopping by! My approach to therapy comes from the belief that your journey is unique and personal. Sometimes life experiences place obstacles in our path that make it hard to move forward. My goal is to help you remove these so you can find purpose and joy in life. Part of removing these obstacles is knowing how you react to stress or trauma and recognize warning signs and patterns that cause you to feel anxious, stuck, tired, overwhelmed, or all of the above! I work with adults and motivated couples who really want to work on the relationship, but aren't sure where to start.

Do you struggle with anxiety, low self-esteem, feeling not good enough, negative self-talk, or comparing yourself to others and feeling like you fall short? Or maybe you have feelings deep down that you are failing or that you're somehow inadequate, flawed, or unworthy of love, success, a promotion, a relationship, etc. You may experience these feelings about yourself in general or they may be tied to a specific area of your life - whether that's relationships, your work, or any other aspect.

My therapeutic approach is tailored to adults who are currently experiencing depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation, interpersonal deficits, and other issues regarding the self. I am a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community and work well with the individualistic and affirmative fashions in which human beings choose to self-identify. As a licensed clinical social worker, I believe that the individual is part of system: the micro (familial), the mezzo (immediate community), and the macro (the world at large). I look forward to speaking with you.

Called Schema Therapy, it helps identify underlying causes for the difficulties clients bring in and enables us together to unlearn the patterns so they can move forward in a new direction.
I'm honored when clients contact me because I know it takes a lot of courage to reach out when you feel stuck in your life and don't know how to move forward. I recognize there are many ways a person or couple can feel stuck, including low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, and lack of direction in their life. I see therapy as a collaborative effort between client and therapist, and requires more than just listening (though that is important) but also requires a framework or strategy to help individuals discover who they are beyond the problems that prompt them to seek a therapist.

You are on the verge of taking a brave step. Perhaps you have encountered a new challenge, or have realized you need a new way of coping with an old problem. Often this is a moment of crisis, and at the same time, an opportunity to learn and to grow. I am passionate about working with clients who are coping with major life changes. If a medical condition (e.g. brain injury, post-concussion syndrome, stroke, spinal injury, chronic dizziness/pain, chronic illness or critical illness/COVID) has affected you or your loved one, or if your quality of life is impacted by treatable conditions such as PTSD or anxiety, we may be a good fit.

Schema Therapy

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy is based on the idea that maladaptive thought patterns formed in childhood—that other people can never be relied on, for example—can interfere with healthy functioning in adulthood. Accordingly, schema therapy works by directly targeting such unhealthy schemas, identifying their consequences, and replacing them with more adaptive ways of thinking. To this end, schema therapists aim to “reparent” the client by offering what they didn’t get in childhood—validation, for instance, or compassion—to reorient their worldview.

Is schema therapy evidence-based?

Schema therapy is still considered relatively new, and research on its efficacy is still in progress. However, some studies have concluded that it can be effective at treating certain mental health conditions, most notably personality disorders such as borderline personality disorder. Evidence for its efficacy in treating conditions like depression, anxiety, PTSD, and OCD is promising but less conclusive, and experts warn that much of the existing research is of low quality.

Is schema therapy a type of CBT?

Schema therapy is based on many principles of CBT, most notably the process of recognizing and challenging maladaptive thought patterns. But because schema therapy also draws from other approaches, including psychoanalysis and Gestalt therapy, it is not considered a form of CBT. It also typically delves deeper into the client’s childhood than does CBT.

How does schema therapy work?

Schema therapy does not call for a set number of sessions and is instead open-ended, with the treatment timeline depending on the client’s primary concern(s), progress, and preferences. Treatment that lasts between six months and two years is common, though many clients will start to see progress much earlier than that.
