I value creating a close, personal connection with my clients and using our therapeutic relationship to explore and understand other relationships in your life.
Updated 8/1/24: My clients have come to me experiencing stress, anxiety, depression, and many other presenting concerns. In therapy I strive to understand and clarify my clients' goals and help them work toward building insight around their concerns. You don't have to know exactly what your goals might be, and during our work you can always add or change goals. This is your treatment and my hope is that you take an active role in determining the direction and depth of the work that we do together. My hope is that we can end every session feeling that we have made progress.

Welcome. It's time. You've been thinking about therapy for a minute. You tried it once or twice, were scared or triggered, and lost the inclination. You've been leaving messages with no response and lost the heart or time to circle back. Meanwhile, you keep finding yourself in relationships with the same people doing the same things. A pattern's purpose is to persist, confuse, and make you forget. A series of patterns led you to the burnout, stuck-ness, and relationship issues you face time and time again. Together, we can uncover and break patterns, cycles, and unconscious contracts and walk toward liberation.

Sometimes, we have a problem that needs an outside perspective that allows ourselves to resolve it and move forward. Sometimes, we just need confirmation that what we are thinking is real and justified. Whether it is anxiety, depression, relationship issues, suicidality, or changes in life you are dealing with (like empty nesting, retirement, moving from home, elderly care) are all things we need help to transition into. I can help you navigate them collaboratively, and with your narrative in place.

I help couples & polycules with communication, identifying & expressing emotion, building trust, and rediscovering the joy of being together.
It's become a struggle to express your needs to the people you love. Some days, it feels like you are repeating the same conversation or argument over and over again. You feel stuck and vulnerable. I understand what you are going through. Relationships can be challenging, with twists and turns that create anxiety, confusion, and discouragement. This may not be what you expected and it can be difficult to remember what it’s like to feel excited and satisfied. I want to help you find the way back to a more fulfilling and healthier relationship. There is a way forward.

Using the Gottman Method, I work with couples who are striving to rebuild their connection, improve their communication, and manage conflict.
Are you experiencing loss of emotional connection in your relationship? Is that lack of connection leading to loss of interest in physical intimacy? Or, perhaps communication with your partner feels like you are gridlocked in the same argument over and over? Using The Gottman Method, I work with couples who are striving to rebuild their connection, improve their communication, and manage conflict. In addition, I have experience supporting individuals and couples with a wide range of issues, such as low desire, kink, LGBTQIA+, non-monogamy, and sexual dysfunction.

Agape Health Initiatives was created to help people achieve enlighment. An individual, regardless of one's past, present, and future, is deserving of the peace which comes from loving oneself and being able to show love to others. Emotional distress in the form of trauma, emotional disturbance, depression, anxiety, hearing voices or seeing things, negative self talk and distorted thinking steals personal peace and stops an individual from being able to obtain the peace which comes from loving oneself and others. My goal is to provide the tools and foster pathways for my clients to create personal peace and fulfillment.

I've worked extensively with trauma survivors to help them find healing from their past, and to begin creating a life worth living for themselves in the present. I became a therapist because I wanted to work with clients who had experienced trauma, and while I specialize in working with LGBTQ+ clients, I have worked successfully with clients from numerous backgrounds.

Pull up a bean bag chair, grab your favorite fidget, and let's talk. Maybe you describe your life as "a lot," and struggle to find the spoons to get all your stuff done as well as make meaningful change. Maybe anxiety takes up so much space in your day that it leaves little room for the things you want. Maybe your story includes trauma, and that burden is getting so heavy, it hurts. You want to pursue fulfillment, satisfaction, meaning, and peace in your world. If any of these or other painful places in your heart are true, I would love to get a chance to walk alongside you and find what you're looking for together.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
